I agree with Derek54

I have to agree with Derek54 on this. Though I am a newbie, all my friends that have corns handle them often. So often that the snakes love just being out of their viv and sit contently next to their owners. I'm trying this approach, I believe corns can be affectionate if handled often and become comfortable.

Terra and Serg(my corns) get held almost everyday except for the 2 days i give them to digest. Maeve(albino cal king) will get held probably the same as my corns but right now she's digesting so she's not handleable right now. Nyxx(BP) same but for longer periods of time..where the corns might be out for 20 to 30 minutes Nyxx is sometimes out for 30 to 45 minutes cause she so calm and laid back. And Divana isn't held at all(well at least by me anyway) cause she isn't home yet as she is still being paid off and the place I'm getting her from is holding her for me

All my snakes get 2 days after feeding and most of their shed cycle to themselves...i leave them alone during those times

I'm often out of the house from 8am to 10:30pm.. so I don't even get to handle my girl as often as I'd like.

I'd probably say once every two or three days.

handling thanks

Thanks everyone, I really love to handle her. She is a little squirmy sometimes, but other times she's calm. I'm hoping she will get content enough to just sit and hang out with me!

well...

The way I do it is. I won't handle the first several days after feeding. That's an easy one. And I don't make a point of handling my babies. I know for at least the first six months or so my babies are left alone to eat and grow in peace. They might get handled when cleaned, but I feel that grabbing them makes them jump and thrash sometimes, so I'd rather just gently bump them from their container into the holding container to clean their cage. Then back again without ever actually being picked up. I just feel being babies I want them to work on growing and getting well established. Though yes, most baby corns once started feeding tend to be hardy little souls that do seem to handle being handled a lot. I just feel they are enduring a bit of stress to do so and better wasting calories on growing up.

My yearlings and adults on the other hand... Many of them aren't messed with but once a week when it's cleaning time. But there are those times I'm like, hey photo shoot time. Or, I just get the urge to pull something out and look at it. Sometimes when I open a cage they are curious too and slide forward to see what's going on. Very few of my adults are touchy about being handled. In fact only one comes to mind, my male Okeetee, Dennis. He's a bit defensive.

Corner,

It'll depend on your particular snake. My daughter's snake was great about being handled and was very content to hang out around your neck while you watched tv or typed on the computer. My guy on the other hand, has been the suicidal type that would try diving off your hands and is still apt to attempt to make an escape. His "content" time is simply when he's catching his breath. He does like to get out of his tank, but he wants to always be on the move :)

thanks

Thanks for all the help. My corn is still a baby (less than a year) Most times she wants to come out, but true, sometimes she is a little jumpy. Maybe we should hold off a bit.
I would love her to be like your daughter's, I'll keep my fingers crossed :)

To be perfectly honest I have not handled any of my 5 since last feeding. BAD MOMMA! Life happens and snakes survive and adapt, that in my humble opinion is the beauty of snakes. My dog could not have gone that long without food/water/COMPANIONSHIP. :flames:

i have been handling my amel corn snake once a day for about 20 mins a time. i want him to get used to being piked up and stuff and i think the best way is just to keep doing it daily. Hes getting a lot better.

The way i approach getting him is like this. if hes in one of his hides, il take out his other hide and his hanging vines. then il uncover him and wait until he moves out of his coiled position. once hes moving around a bit il pik him up by the body. i wouldntlike to reach for him when he is coiled. the reason i take out his other hide and vines is because on other occasions he has just gone and rapped himself round his vines or gon straight into his other hide. i think this would coause a lot more stres keep having to chase him around and keep uncovering him. it seems to be working very well this way. at first he musked on me a lot (the first week) but now im in the 4th week of owning my little baby and he has totally stopped musking and is ver good with the handling.

Well I didn't vote yet because I have yet to actually obtain my snake. But aside from the the few days I need to leave him to adjust, and the time after feeding, or if its cranky during shedding I plan to hold it every avaliable day. I'll vote when I actually get it :D

I need an other option..

I feed on Sunday so Sunday -> poo day ( Tue or Wed) no hold, Then, 30 minutes to 1hr 30 minutes 1-2 times that week till Sunday.
