Not sure if anyone else has done this, but I tested it out to see what would happen. I'm shipping some snakes out today, and am not overly concerned with temps as they are leaving 50 degree weather for 60 degree weather.

But, I placed a 10 hour handwarmer in the box I'm using to ship, along with the shredded newspaper/filler and no snakes. I closed the box up as if it were being shipped with a temp probe in there. After two hours, the temp inside the shipping box is 110 degrees F!! That shocked me quite a bit! Granted the room temp is 70 degrees, but the box is insulated, and can't see that temp coming down more than 20 degrees or so in an overnight shipping arrangement . . .

Along with the Oxygen concerns with using heat packs there is a definite overheating concern as well!

PS. I don't think I'll be using the heat pack . . .
 
I didn't even consider the O2 situation when packing heat in a pretty well sealed box...

I guess I'm saying thanks for mentioning it!
 
I've had some of those hand warmers get too hot to use in my gloves. I only use them with my herps when I'm going to a show when it's real cold. I put one or two in a box (2'x2'x3') to make sure they don't get too cold during transport.
