Has your corn ever bit you?

I try to do everything right, feed in separate cage, after handling mice wash hands.

If you have ever been bitten by your corn, please share the story and tell me what you were doing wrong or right?

I have had him for 3 weeks and he has never snipped at me yet.

Thanks
Melody

I have only been bitten by two different hatchlings. They were scared though, because I was trying to pick them up and they wanted to get away. I was only bitten once by each because they quickly learned that biting didn't make me put them down :)

However most of the hatchlings that I have had (about eleven so far) have never bitten me at all.

I haven't been bitten once by my corn, I have seen videos of when she was little, and me holding her while the mouse was right next to her and my hands would of smalled of mouse (I din't know any better then) but still she didn't bite me! :) Sometimes she goes a bit crazy if I put new things in her viv, but she is mostly ok! :)

Fiji, my female amel, is not fond of being held. She's mellowed out to the point that she hasn't bitten me in almost a year, but when I got her she was very snap-happy!

I think she wasn't very used to being handled (I got her as an adult), and its just taken me a while to teach this old snake that I'm not trying to eat her.

I have been bitten 3 times by 3 different snakes. 2 of them was because i had just got into snakes and they were scared because they were new and I was too fast for them when picking them up and the other time was about 6 months ago when I tryed to move my Ball Python and I had mouse scent on me, so she stiked at me

Cheers

I've only been bitten by a corn snake once and that was due to the fact that it was feeding time and instead of just feeding the snake her mouse I tried to remove her water bowl first, my mistake.

I was struck at a couple times (he didn't connect though) by one of my new snakes right when I first got him, because he was just too nervous. He's since calmed down though and hasn't struck at me since.

I've also been "struck" at by one of my snakes, but strangely enough he didn't open his mouth. He just butted me with his head. He did this at the end of a long photo session while I was trying to reposition him for another photo. I think he just was a little peeved at being out so long.

Let's see... I must just be cursed or something... of my corns, only my '03 hurricane snow motley bites. He's quite aggressive, but he calms down, and he's small enough so that at most it's a few pinpricks.

I have one kingsnake that can't quite figure out that my fingers aren't mice. He chomps on me given the slightest provocation and he won't let go. He's such a huge snake (5+ feet) that he's got a very strong bite, and loves to wrap himself around his cage furniture. When I handle him I keep a small lid full of alcohol so that I can make him let go. If he gets me I dab my pinkie finger of the unbitten hand in the alcohol and hold it up to his nose without touching him. Most the time that is enough to make him let go. He just loves to grab hold because he's certain that everything is a mouse. When he bites I usually bleed quite freely from the wound, but it never causes me a problem.

The hatchlings fresh out of the egg are always the most agressive, my Blotched king eggs (the finger-eater is a blotched) are the MOST agressive, little vicious critters! Little worms acting like they are King Kong or T.Rex.

I've been bitten more times than I can remember. Mostly it's when moving them to or from their feeding container. (I don't feed them in their enclosure) It's mostly a feeding response. I can only suggest that when (it'll eventually happen) you get clamped on to that you fight all reactions to pull away. A lot of times they'll just let go as soon as they realize you aren't food. If they don't let go water (hot works best) helps them decide to let you go.

Has mine ever bit me, let me count the times... 6 times in a 1 month period. Every time I was bit, it was my fault, though. I obviously got my snake from a breeder who did not have 5 loud roommates and did not ever handle his snakes. I got bitten 4 times in one 5 min handling session because my roommate wanted to hear some really loud music and just turned it on... the bass vibrated the furniture... I had the time to think it was a bad idea and then got tagged.

My corn hasnt bitten me once! she hasnt even assumed a predatory, strike position. Luck seems to have it that ive got quite a mellow snake! :p

Never been bitten by a corn, but my male stripe amel. is always rattling his tale at me when he gets nervous.

The wild eastern milks around here will rip you apart! I have had one that drew blood and left "fang" marks for a while.

Hi Mykal,

A ball python has bigger teeth than a corn. The pain is relative. I've had some pretty nasty operation before so a ball python bite is not painful at all, I think. But it sure bleeds a lot. All them little teeth pounding into your skin. I got bitten a few times by my corns, but all bites were just snapping. and then let go. My ball has mistaken my hand for food one day and instead of letting go in wrapped around the arm and started squeezing. My corns have never done that so I think it's a bit more painful being bitten by an adult Python regius.
yet nothing to be afraid of.

I guess one of my ghosts was hungry since she just grabbed my pinky and coiled around it. I was just about to grab the water bowl and she decided that waiting until tomorrow to eat was not an option. When she was done killing my pinky I gave her a rat pup to eat instead of my pinky.

Not much of a story but ....

I've been rammed a couple times but I was bitten by one of our snakes for the first time a few days ago.

She was in shed at about my bedtime and in the morning I found her still working on it. It was a terrible shed and there were little pieces of snake skin all over the cage. When I picked her up to help out with the poor shed she nipped me. At a minor length of 21 inches it didn't even break the skin but her mouth was clearly open when she struck me- she was a VERY unhappy camper. It took about 20 minutes with a wet paper towel to finish the job and a couple days later she was back to her normal, almost calm, self.

Cheers,
Jason

Mykal, its hurts a little bit but not much. But as they get older, the teeth will obvuosly get bigger and it will start to hurt more.

Acradon & Alex,
Thanks for the replies.
I'm thinking about getting a Ball Python, not sure when though.

Oh, right. Well they are great pets, but the only problem with them is that they can go off food for a while.
