Considered using sheds as substrate?

I keep all my sheds but don't have enough to fill my cages with, but will it work?

I mean if you have had your snakes for a while (and youre keeping da sheds) its an ever lasting supply of free substrate.

It's clean, and can look pretty damn funky!

Hmm, I'm not sure that it would be that good for the snake?? Not sure though, but wouldn't it be like us never hoovering and living in our own dead skin cells? I would have imagined that it would attract dust mites or some other type of debris eating beasties.

I agree with Rachel. Obviously you are just curious but if someone actually did that it would be insanely unsanitary. It definitly would attract germs and god knows what else, eventually.

I certainly wouldn't ever recommend that. The shed skins wouldn't absorb ANYTHING. I think it's better to pay a buck or two for some paper towels.

didn't think of dryness or germs! Oops.

But I definately don't mind sticking to paper towel!

thanx for your views guys!!!

Sheds are also biological material, so if they're exposed to wet (poop, water, etc), they will eventually decay and mold and start to smell real bad (not a good thing).
