I can't find where my baby corn has defecated usually. I use aspen shavings as my substrate, I used to use aspen clumps which were brown. It was always easier to detect it on the clumps because his stool had some white in it. He's eaten twice now, and I have yet to find where he defecated. How unhealthy is it if it stays in there if I were to change the substrate at least once a month? Do you have some tips on finding where he defecated? I've tried moving around the aspen to see if i can find some clumps, but it doesn't work since it all usually clumps up eventually =)

sorry, aspen crumbles. Every time I said something along the lines of aspen and clumps when referring to the substrate, i meant crumbles. been a long night =P

It can be difficult to detect in the aspen sometimes. I have a large plastic spoon that I use to dig through the aspen. If I don't find any, I'll use the spoon to "turn" large areas of the substrate. I can usually find it that way. You don't want to leave any feces in the viv for a month as bacteria may form as well as attracting bugs. Good Luck

Yeah... hopefully I can find it. He doesn't have any one set place to defecate, it's always some place new whenever I find it. Gonna take him out today and give his cage a good looking over. Thanks =)

One other thing with hatchlings, sometimes I don't find any solids at all, but will see a lot of white powdery substance on the bottom of the viv. This would be urates, their version of urine, and I'll take a paper towel with some warm water and "sponge" it up.
