For all of you who knew I was getting a BP raised exclusively on live prey, just wanted to let you know he ate his first F/T on the first try tonight!!!

I tried tease feeding him with tongs and he shyed away from it, so I left the mouse at the base of his hide. 30 mins later, bye bye mouse! LOL I'm so happy I don't have to rely on live feeder mice! What a snake! He is so docile, and what a steal I got him for. Made my month! :crazy02:
 
Yeah, Congrats! When I "resued" my creamsicle (for $49.99 Grrr!) the sales lady said that she would only eat live. Bull! She grabbed the first pinkie I gave her in a second flat, and has been a piggie ever since. BTW, how big do BP's get? They sure are pretty.

From what I've read and heard from other BP owners, they get anywhere from 5-6'. Mine is 3 yrs old and 3+'. (I think they were feeding him much smaller than he should have been fed, the small mouse I fed him sure didn't make much of a dent)
 
not much will "dent" a bp since there fat :p lol but anways.. at 3 ft.. an adult mouse seems sufficent.. my boa is 3 ft adn 600g and Ready to move up to rat pups :)
 
Major Congrats Jen! I'm sure you had a smile from ear to ear when you saw the meal was gone. I had to fight my BP's a bit to take f/t, now I have to fight to keep them in the cage when it comes feeding time.
 
My bp is almost a year old and can eat rats... not big rats but small to medium. Rats are better than mice, they provide more vitamins and are much healthier. You should feed them a prey item that is slightly larger than the biggest point on you bp's body, because after he constricts it, it is alot smaller. Congrats on the bp, they are my favourite pet snake amd I think you'll find them to be great pets.
 
Way to go!

I've got a 4-5 month old BP that is eating live small adult mice and a 8-9 month old that is eating jumbo f/t mice. I need the take the little one in to the vet tomorrow for an RI, but its eating live with no problems. I hope I can get it to switch to f/t once this RI is cleared up.
 
Thanks for the congrats and the idea of what size mouse to go for. Being used to corns, it was tough to guess, and since their heads are so much smaller than their bodies I was worried I was going to get something too big for him to get down. My friend's BP is eating rats, (and I think they have a better nutritional impact on them as well :) ) so I think when I go to get his next meal I'll check the relative size of an adult mouse and get a rat the same size. Then I can work him up from there, I don't want to make a big jump since he's been used to small mice.
 
Haha RyanR. My boas 2 1/2 feet long and a lil over 600 and he's on rat weanlings lol. Took down his first rat yesterday and has managed to keep it down so far. But congrats Jen. :crazy02:
