He vanished!

My newest addition - my snow corn Bliss - has disappeared! I went to feed them today and he is just not in his tub! I have checked it 5 times - removed everything. I even checked everyone elses tubs in case I put him in there by mistake - not likely but I guess it can happen..

He was still in there on Sunday because I took photos of him and I definitely saw him exploring on Sunday night but last night I wasnt home so I have no idea when he actually escaped..

As far as to how he got out - I am completley clueless.. There are no gaps between the lid and and the tub, no holes - and he is on the bottom so it was weighed down by 3 other tubs!

He is usually out around 11pm so I am going to watch things closely tonight.. I am leaving his tub open with a pinky in it.. I am so confused right now on how he got out.. I have only had him for 10 days..

Good luck finding him. I had a little one get out of a folded up and taped down paper bag. If there's the slightest way out, they'll find it. Again...good luck!

I really hope you find him. I know what your going through and how you feel, Saber my Amel went missing for 2 weeks. I found her in a CD unit that id looked in a dozen times before. Dont give up hope of finding him. Perhaps if you used some sort of strap around your containers to secure them, it might help prevent this happening again. Good luck with the search.

Am I spreading bad luck to people?
Your situation sounds similar to mine...
Try to look in any holes, in dressers, behind any furniture, any where that is a mess...

Thanks!!

I will look into the strap thing - but really - with 3 tubs on top - he simply could not have pushed it up! I'll have to invest in chains and locks to put around these tubs!! :)

I have soooo much stuff in my room - he could be anywhere.. I'm going to lie in the dark with a torch tonight and wait :)

Did you sift through all your substrate? Actually remove it bit by bit to insure he wasn't in it and not just shift the substrate around a bit? Do a search on here for the soda bottle trap as well. Also when you are looking follow the walls of your room. Also block off under the door with a towel so he doesn't get out of your room if he hasn't already. If you have a dog or cat you trust (would recommend having them leashed) bring them into your room with you. They have great hearing and smelling abilities and will let you know where the snake is before you see it. Good luck.

Good Luck I lost Niblet once because the pet sitter didn't close the lid tight. He was gone for several weeks. But no worse for the wear.

Good Luck

How big did you make the ventilation holes in your tubs? I ask because I've been told hatchlings can sometimes get through anything bigger than about 3mm (I'm assuming the new snow is a hatchling?).

Good luck in finding him and keep us posted.

Best wishes,

Thanks everyone.. Still no sign of him

The substrate is newspaper so its pretty easy to check.. I even lifted it out and shook it a bit!

The ventilation holes are about 4/5 mm - I wonder if he got out there? They look way too small but maybe.. He is a hatchling - probably around 2 months or so.

Yup, you'll be surprised at places they can get out of,
but they are hardy animals and will more than likely still be
around. My "Lightning" escaped from me from Nov 06 to Feb 07
then escaped from a Reptile shop she was being boarded at
from Jul 07 to just before Christmas 07. So don't give up hope
and keep on the look out.
Good Luck!!!

I have had my Tallie for only 13 months and she just recently escaped from a small tear in the screen of the sliding door top of her vivarium. I was panicked as we have 6 cats and 6 dogs in the house and I knew she was toast if she was out for more than 30 minutes. My son pulled the dresser out from the wall in my bedroom where her vivarium sits and sure enough she was under a pile of papers that had slid under the dresser over the years. What a relief! We went out the very next day and bought a whole new cage and lid that she cannot get out of! She's a very sneaky snake I've discovered!
I wish you much luck in your quest!

Definitely let the animals help you if you can. When my Royal got out, I, jokingly, yelled at my cats every day asking why they weren't doing their job and finding him. One day I got a hunch to check the basement (I didn't think he could have gotten that far w/ 3 cats so I never looked... it's quite a long haul from where he escaped to the basement stairs). I brought my flashlight and was swinging the beam around when I caught a glint of little smudge's eye. I looked closer and sure as day there was my Royal. She was just sitting there, keeping a safe distance, waiting for me to find him.:crazy02:

Please do not give up! My friend on another list lost her baby boa for 5 mos. She thought she had lost her snake forever and she was down in her basement (what is it with people's snakes and their basements??) doing laundry and saw a boa tail peek out of the towels and there was her snake and it took her 5 months to find her snake! So do *not* give up hope, your snake will surface! You too, will have a recovery story to tell soon!

My corn snake got out the night I got him. I looked every where and was scared that he got out of the apartment through a crack in the door. I read that putting flour along the wall and in corners would help you find them. So we locked up the dog and the cat put flour in every corner and in different spots along the wall and sat in the dark. We would look around with a flash light about every 20min. when we decided to call it a night and turned all the lights back on I noticed that some of the flour was disturbed so we traced it from the laundry room and and it stoped next to the shoes by the door we started looking around and he was hiding under a shoe. we turned on the lights just in time cause i think he was heading for the door. You will find him where you dont expect to find him and in the place you probable check the most. Best of luck

I'll second this--Kaven gave me a heart attack a couple weeks ago 'cause I couldn't find him ANYWHERE. I took out all the hides, and had removed half his substrate--actually REMOVED it--before I finally found him hiding in it. They can be pretty sneaky! And, as my friend so eloquently pointed out, their survival in the wild depends on their ability to hide, so they're experts at it!

Let me tell you.....missing snakes can be anywhere!! I found my missing snake Tequila in the washing machine. She was in the middle of the outside and the tub that goes around inside. We had to take the washing machine apart to get her!! She also got lost and made her way into a pillow case. We laid our head down and there she was!! Good luck.
