Head shy?

Question for everyone...

My amel appears to be head shy. When I handle him, he seems to do fine, except when my hand goes near his head. If it does, he'll jurk away like he's scared. Is this normal, and is it necesarily a bad thing? How do you break snakes from this? Any suggestions would help... just want to make sure I'm not stressing the little guy out too much. Thanks!

I always give my corns free reign of their heads. Most corns don't particularly like having their head movement constricted in any way. When you are handling him make sure you support his body but only guide his head as to where you want (or dont want ;) ) him to go.

i trained mine to not be head shy

Hi all,
I have trained my corns to not be heady shy.. I just gently stroked the back of their heads, more and more each time I took him/her out until it didn't bother them at all.. it took anywhere from 2-6 times of doing this to get them to stop caring.

Some of my snakes seem to like being rubbed gently down their body... it depends on their mood too though.

Snakes
1.0 Gray rat -- Gandalf
0.1 snow corn -- Opal
1.0 miami corn -- Orion
0.1 Brazilian rainbow -- Penny

I'm with Quesar??? Mine just got used to it and they don't jerk away anymore. I don't restrict head movement, I just pet, like a dog... They seem to like it now.

about head shy...

mines isn't head shy and also lets me pet his head, but he really
really likes it when I rub him under his "chin" with my finger. He even
moves with my finger when I try to pull away! :)

Found out why

Well, the problem started with a bad shed... his head didn't go all the way so I took him to the pet store and had the reptile dept. manually shed it for him. They thought they got everything off but apparently one eye cap was still on! One quick spray down and the cap came off... he immediately calmed down. Thanks for the advice though! It'll take some training to calm him down all the way.
