Heat cable and tubs?

Howdy Folks!
I bought some iris sweater boxes and a heat cable. I have been using uth's with tanks and hard plastic critter boxes before now. I am so sick of all the cords! The instructions say "ideal for rack systems", but also say not to use on plastic?! I have the heat cable snaked and duct taped to the outside smaller sides of the tubs. Its on the plastic and seems very warm. (I'll check temps tonight when I get home.) Am I doing this all wrong? I've seen some racks onlne that I think the cable isn't actually touching the plastic.... What do y'all do?

Heat cable and flexwatt are usually attached to the rack/shelves, and the tubs rest on them, (handy for moving the tubs around and in and out of the rack system), rather than attaching the cable to the tubs directly.

My flexwatt is attached to the back of my rack so that it is providing back heat and not touching my tubs. I've had no problems of any kind with this set-up.

I've also heard of quite a few people who recess the heat cable down in the shelves so that it's providing belly heat but not touching the tubs.
