my little theo (hahaha yes i named my snake theodore) is doing really well! thanks so much for all the help everyone! at least for now, the thermostat isn't going as crazy and i'm setting up the new one today.

is there any way to keep heat from escaping? my apartment is really freakin cold and in addition to my thermometers with probes (which are fine) i have one on the tank. this one is reading at about mid 60s. is a heat lamp in order? at least a weak one?

also what does everyone use to keep their probes in place? i'm scared to use super glue because that stuff gives me a headache...maybe non-toxic glue? or would this alter the temp. readings? ack i'm being so neurotic about all this.

today is theo's first feed with me...wish me luck!

You can put news paper over 2/3 of the top. This will help retain some heat. I just use UTH and my room can get pretty cold too. As long as you keep the warm side around 85ish he should be ok.

I just leave the probe under the warm hide. My snakes don't usually disrupt it too much. I guess if you wanted to secure it you could use some silicone bathroom caulk. You'd need to leave your snake somewhere for about 24 hours. While it's ok once dry, it's toxic while it's curing.
 
I have that problem but its the complete opposite. My hot side was between 77 and 83 or so and the cool side was around 77 as well but that was just because my room was so hot. so I cut a little fan on in my room and it has been perfect ever since. Which last night was his first night with me. By the way good luck on the feeding. My little mans first feeding with me is friday so wish me luck as well. haha

You can cover as Danny suggested. You can also use towels or sheets.

I have also had this problem in the past. I used a space heater in the room to raise the ambient temp. Just use all the safety precautions if you use one.

You can also use aquarium silicone. Just as Danny said, it will take time to set up.

If you glue/attach your probe it will be harder to clean your snake's tank periodically.... just a heads up.

The zoo-med digital thermometer comes attached with a suction cup to sticky in place. I actually tied it to the thermostat censor probe and both stay in place.
 
For the probe, I also use a suction cup stuck to the glass on the bottom. Although some of the vivs I have the probe hot glued to the bottom. If you go for glue, let it cure (set/dry) for about 24 hours.

i'm so excited. i fed theo and left the room, checked on him 10 min. later, and there he was looking all bloated haha

i didn't even think about the whole cleaning thing involving the probes being glued. i'll be getting some suction cups.
 
Another great way to raise ambient temps is a ceramic heater (its like a light bulb but puts off no light just heat so you can use it day and night.
