heat lamps

Hi Everyone,

I'm setting up a new tank. Should I put the heat lamp on the cold side and the water in the middle? the tank is big enough for him to still have a cold side and a hide on the cold side.

I have another post called "just a few question in health. I could use some help please.

Thanks

if the temp is too low then yes you might want to add a lamp just to help your snake thermoregulate more. As long as it has a cool side then you should be fine. It also helps to regulate day (light) and night (dark) for them also. Since corns usually defacate around the sides of the enclosure, its better to have the water bowl dowards the middle so they don't leave any surprises in their drinking water.

I had an uth on the warm side its about 83degrees. The cool side is about 72degrees. under the heat lamp its about 93degrees. I just wanted to know if the cool side should have the basking lamp in a spot or if it should all be cool. I will put the water dish in the middle.

If it's 83 on the warm side you dont need a heat lamp, 92 is not necessary for corns, and it's probably a few degrees hotter than comfortable.

Stick with the just the uth and you should be okay.

92 degrees...

is a good temperature for an ill snake because it provides them with what is equivalent to a fever in humans and will help fight any respiratory sickness that they may be experiencing, but for a typically healthy snake the enclosure should be kept between 72 and 82 degrees. is the heat lamp placed on the lid of the tank? if so you can clamp it a foot or so above the enclosure and that might bring the temperature down a bit.
