Heat Mats

Thanks for the info.

I have put the heater mat in the tank with a ceramic tile on top followed by the substrate. The temp on the thermometer stuck just above the substrate is 70F.
The shop also sold me a 60W red spot heater lamp. When I put this on although it is angeled down and about 5" from the top of the vivarium it still gets quite hot above it. Does this happen with other who have a wooden viv. Just a bit concerned about fire. I was thinking about perhaps a lower watt blue daylight which may give a bit of heat but also be a bit more pleasing on the eye. Any suggestions?

Also where can i get a lamp guard for the light. Shop said no problem snake wont go near it but concerned about this.

My old glass tank has the UTh on all the time and the red spot during the day on a timer.

Dont want to swap tanks until the new tank is properly set up.

Any advice appresciated

Thanks

If your using a bulb in wooden viv you need a dimming thermostat to control it or it could get very hot and harm your snake what temp are you getting below the bulb on the substrate and under the substrate on top of the tile?

Your snake may get burnt by the bulb so you need a guard as you say you can try to make one out of mesh but make sure theres no sharp bits that could hurt your snake.

If your after a cheap light that won't get hot get one of those push lamps that go in wardrobes and put that in, you can't leave it on long though as the batteries will go down.
