Heat

I live in Montana and in the winter I leave my heat a little low because I like my house cool and I don't have the greatest insulated house around and heat is expensive here. I usually have a couple heat lamps on my tanks in the winter because I can't seem to keep the heat up. I also use UTH all year around. In the summer I just use the UTH. But anyway I was reading the post about making your own rheostat (thanks Daniel) and I thought about plugging one of those into a ceramic heater (lamp style) and setting it on the screen on my tanks to help with heat. Is that a descent idea or does the ceramic get too hot for the screen top?

I would suggest using a thermostat for that application.. A dimmer woudl be a good choice if you had your room temps stable all the time.. But from your description you need it sometimes and sometimes you dont.. Just a thought:)
