Heating and temperature

Hey everyone,

I have a 3ft9 long viv, it's about a 1ft2 wide and 2ft high.

I have a 60w bulb at one end connected to thermostat.

Questions is what is the ideal temperature to set the thermostat at?

And what should hot and cold side be registering?

Thank you!

Hayley

Also is my ceramic holder supposed to get really hot? I do have a cage around it to keep him off but was always taught that could start a fire

snakes need about 12 hours a day light and 12 hours a day dark. Do you have another heat source? You can't just leave a 60 watt light on all the time. It will mess up the poor snake's metabolism and day/night cycle.

Your cold side should not go below 70 ever. It would be better at about 74 to 75.

The warm side should be between 82 and 88. Most of us opt for about 85.

It's attached to the thermostat so it turns itself off when it gets to a curtain temp, I turn the thermostat down at night and it turns off most of the night

I have a small heat matt that was used on hatchling box but it's not very big and wouldn't go through the wood on the viv and don't want to put it inside incase he burns himself on it

so if you turn the light out at night there is no heat then. That's not good.

You need a spot that stays 85 all the time, and another spot that stays 74 all the time. And the light needs to be off for 12 hours.

You really need to rethink your situation and try something different, but I'm not going to argue with you about it. I've said what I think, and I will not post anymore on this thread.

Good luck.

A heat lamp really shouldn't be used since corn snakes are nocturnal and get heat through their bellies. Use a window for a day/night cycle

If your viv does not allow for an under tank heat pad then you might look into a ceramic heat emitter, or even better, a radiant heat panel. Make sure you follow all safety instructions.

A light bulb should be for light. Most of us either use normal room light to light our vivs, or if we need a little extra light use an LED bulb which doesn't add heat. The day night light cycle is important to the health of your snake.
