I am currently using a heat lamp for my baby and the heat was too powerful (90 degrees) so I bought a thermostat and I can keep the tank around 80-85 during the day. At night I turn the lamp off and the tank has gotten down to 65.
Is this ok? Should I get a pad instead of the lamp?
What do I do in the summer when it gets hot and humid here and I HATE turning on the AC?

UTH doesn't dry out the viv as much. Why do you turn off the heat lamp at night? Is it a white light? Most heat lamps are the infrared red lights and can be left on all the time as they are not visible to the snake. 65 might compromise digestion. As far as the summer goes, if the room stays at around 82 or so, you can turn off the uth or heat lamp. If it's hotter than that, you may need to move the viv lower to the floor where it's cooler, or move it into a cooler room.
 
I inherited a set up from someone that has a heat lamp and a heat mat. I've invested in a dimming thermostat for the lamp to keep the daytime temperature around 85 at the warm end and a second thermstat for the heat mat so this takes over at night but I drop the temperature a little to 82.

The mat thermostat stops the mat from kicking in during the day. Seems to work pretty well but it was quite an outlay on thermostats!!
