I got a baby snow corn last week; a terrific eater and generally a personable snake. She is on coconut fiber substrate, a bit less than an inch thick, with a large pine-bark hide. I am presently using a heat lamp with an ordinary 100 watt bulb in it (metal hood style lamp). I am wondering about undertank heating pads; is this an ordinary drugstore heating pad? I was thinking about placing my heating pad under the tank for better heat distribution but the weight of a glass aquarium seems hazardous on top of a heating pad. The tank is a 55 gallon long, if it makes a difference.
I had thought of placing small blocks of some sort, under the edges of the tank to elevate it slightly, so as to get the benefit of undertank heating without the seeming risk associated with putting the tank directly on the pad... is this workable?
One more question: the snake spends 99% of her time under the substrate; will this change? I believe that she's about 8 to 10 weeks old.
