Heating/Wiring a rack/stack system?

disjunto

New member
I am planning on drastically increasing my collection within the next year or so and intending to get stack or rack to house all my snakies together, but was wondering how heating would be setup.

How do all you guys/gals setup the heating side of your racks/stacks?

I use flex watt. I have an animal plastics rack that came with heat cable, I hated the cable so much that I went and bought pre-wired flexwatt to use with it instead.

That sux. I am not sure what you can or can't use in the UK. Hopefully one of the other UK members will be able to help you.

what do you do about temperature control on multiple tanks? do you run all of your flexwatt off a single thermostat and assume they are all about the same temps?

My flexwatt is one long strip, or wired together with one plug. I haven't noticed big temp differences, usually just a degree or two.

I use one thermostat for 6 enclosures. All the enclosures are the same. I suck at wiring and one of my units has a flaky connector.

Sounds like you need a heat strip. These are avaliable from websites mainly but the pet shop I bought my snake from had a couple. They are made by most of the guys that make the heat mats they are basically just a really long heat mat for under tank heating although you would need to use plastic boxes instead of wood vivs which I personally prefer.

Habistat make heat strips they're on this website if your interested. (I found these guys have really reasonable prices for all of my kit hope this helps.)

Swell UK Reptile Shop

Although I only have one snake housed in a wood viv so this is about as much help as I can be.

Oh and by the way FlexWatt is a heat strip.

Habistat Heat Strips appear to just be longer heat mats, flex watt is a self terminated roll of heating strip, allowing for a more customized setup. The fact it is self terminated makes it illegal (due to fire hazard stuff) in the UK. I'll probably just end up with lots of identical heat mats from the same thermostat
