I just got my first corn ..... she is a "hypo"....

my reptile room is really hot,,, all summer its been around 82-90 degrees.....

i house my snakes in 10 gal tanks with screen mesh lids half covered up ..... I use small zoo-med heat pads under 1/3 of the tank and a red heat lamp for basking on rocks on the other 1/3......

the tanks have been to hot what to do?????

shut something off and if so which heat??????

the hot side mat is around 90 degrees during the day... and the basking area is 95-98.....

need some help.... she is my first corn and she is only been in that tank for 2 days now......

i have have some ball pythons and a savannah monitor and the same is going on with them... i know the mponitor is cool up to 100+ degrees in his basking area....

they all have two water bowls and two hides on both ends of the tanks....

Well the first thing u should do is shut off the heat lamps with the basking rocks. Corns really do not need a heating lamp since they mainly require belly heat. The undertank heating pad should be fine for your snake. Always have a hide in the cooler end of the tank as well as one in the warmer end so your snake can choose where s/he wants to be as the temp fluctuates. Make sure there is always water in the cool end in case the corn becomes too hott it can actually soak in there. I live in south florida so i know all about corns and hot temps. Just remove the heating lamp and make sure there is a cool hide and you will be set!
 
95-98 is very high for a temp. Your cool side should be in the 70's and your warm in the mid 80's. Any higher and you're asking for regurges, and a very overheated snake. Definitely get rid of the heat lamp. I'm not sure what you should do to get the temps down enough for a cool side. Are there blinds you can close in the room to cool it down some, or do you have air conditioning? If the room stays that warm, I'd turn off the UTH as well.
 
I had the problem of keeping my snake's cage cool, since I live in the Phoenix area and my apartment would regularly get up to 90 degrees and above during the day. What I did was move the tank so the sun didn't shine on it (it had been right across from our only window) and turn off the light and the heating pad. The snake still had the water dish to cool himself off in, and he seemed perfectly happy.
 
Its been pretty warm here in New England, the ambient temps have been in the 80's or higher. I have both my snakes in my room. All of my blinds are closed and windows open and I have a celing fan that runs 24/7. Because of the temps have been that high I have not had to run any heating for my little ones at all.

So what I would suggest is leave heat mat and lights off, your hatchling will be fine, Cornsnake like cooler temps anyways. With the ambient temps I am running at I don't even turn on the light or heat mat even for feeding. I have had no problems what so ever. My snake is always hanging at the cool end of the cage anyways. With her doing that it's telling me what she needs.

So maybe a fan in where you have your snakes at to at least get some air flow moving around. And keep lights and UTH off. Until temps start dropping again. Look at it this way your saving money for electricity cost :)
 
I live in Az also so I know how the heat goes but my new baby corn wont eat so I was told to take the temp up to 90...with a light...I have a heating pad also. What should I do? I have only had her since Sat and she has already shed. Thanks for any info.
 
Joey I just posted a response to phillyroc about not needing the light or undermat heater. :rolleyes: The temps in the 90's is too hot for a cornsnake. Don't add to the heating problem by adding heat.

Move the tank, to a cooler room, stick it in your closet if its cooler in there. Add a fan in the room, turn on the air conditioner. :eek1: And reread this thread, so I don't have to repeat myself. :crazy02:
 
I know my son would like to move her up to his room. But I'm afraid
that even with our A/C on it get's too warm some days in the upstairs
of our two story house. For now, our basement stays almost a constant
70-72 degrees. It's easy for me with just a heat mat to maintain it.
You need a way to cool off the whole tank....
 
Well just to let you know Krenna her cage was at a low 80 before the light and is at a nice 84-86..and i think i will stick to the info i get from a breeder here in Az over your smart a** reply to someone that was just asking a ? to people that have also had the same problem. Thanks for beeing rude to a new person on the forum...!!!!
 
I'm sure no one meant to offend anyone, but there are a lot of posts about this kinda thing. Some of the people around here get a tad frustrated because of the similarity between many posts. However, you are perfectly welcome to add your two cents. Whereabouts in AZ are you from, joey?
 
Queen Creek (johnson ranch) ...Im with a club out here in Az and we also have a forum...I have never been replyed to like that before...I answer ?s all day long about the same thing...if u dont want to be rude u just dont say a thing at all. ASU fan I see..I work in Tempe and got my corn from Predators in Mesa. :)
 
I'm going to school here in Tempe...I've been looking for different places to buy snakes. Any input would be great! Its nice to know there are a few other snake owners close by that I can get in touch with!

Nice thing about Predators the owner is a sweetheart...Pet Inc is kinda of new to me. My husband and I just got a BDragon awhile ago and we went to Predators and i feel in love with the corns...so I had to get BBQ!! Dont work to hard at ASU!!!
 
Pets Inc is where I got my first corn. The people there are great too. The big guy with the long curly hair sold me my snake, and every time I go in there he remembers me. I'll have to check out that other place. When you said you're in a club, did you mean a corn snake club? Or reptile? Or something completely different altogether?

I had given you more information that was posted under a thread that the answers were given and I re-gave you the same information.

Trust me if I was rude you would know it. :) I don't know you and have no reason to be.

I gave you the benifit of the doubt and thought perhaps you did not read the thread properly and suggested such.

And for Krenna....more your problem...NOT MINE....I treat others like a I would like to be treated!!!
 
We are all just trying to help joey these are people who like myself all own cornsnakes and know how they react to certain elements.. there is no need for name calling.
 
we are all snake owners or breeders why cant we all get along, there should be no fighting on this forum. If you missunderstand someone then ask nicely to repeat themself. This forum is to educate others not to bicker.
