Held a BP today

You should look into some of the Rainbow Boas then. There are quite a few localities, all with a difference in color, size, and pattern. The Colombian Rainbow Boas I believe stay fairly small, are very attractive, and seem to be fairly easy to find at a reasonable price. The Brazilian Rainbow Boas are a bit larger, but even more attractive, though they command a slightly higher price, but still reasonable.

Just some food for thought.

You know, I was going to comment on how the Rainbow boas get rather large (as that is always what I've been told), then I did a little research...the info that NERD has on their site indicates that the Brazilians max length is 7', with the average being 5.5' for females (males slightly smaller). The Colombians are even smaller than that. I've always heard that the Brazilians could be upwards of 8'...interesting! I'll have to look into that more. Thanks for making me think Michael!! :D

I will, however, comment that they are pretty pricey (if she's looking for something more 'corn priced'). Even the low end Brazilians are generally around $125 at shows. I've only ever seen one or two Colombians at shows, so I don't really remember the price, but I believe it was comparable to the Brazilians, if not a little more? Don't quote me on that though.

I wish every one of mine would laze about when I get them out, it might take a minute for a few of them, but all of mine, without exception are very active snakes...I just don't understand why this reputation persists?

Hmmm, the few that I've handled (and the majority of the ones I've seen in their vivs) have been 'lazy'. In contrast, all my boas (and the corns/kings, of course...those guys are always on the move) are quite active in their vivs, always hanging out on top of their hides and watching what I'm doing around the house...they almost seem to want to be involved in whatever is going on. I suppose I'll have to come down and hang out with your BPs, maybe they can convince me otherwise (plus I want to see River's adorable little tortoise again...cutest thing EVER).

Some people who may be used to more wriggly or nippy snakes might interpret this as laziness?

This is possible, as I don't have a huge amount of first hand BP experience...so I am more used to the colubrids and boas.

What about this

Not a bad looking one Mike! I really like the eye color.

Actually, the more I think about it, the more their normal coloration seems tolerable.

I assume Petco is a no-go for BP's, though, so I'll still wait til February to decide for sure.

(still want a hognose, too... but I have a whole life ahead of me to stock up on snakes, verdad?)
