HELLO EVERYONE!!!

Yeah I am getting him a tree thing to climb I didnt see any there that looked good so yeah...

Also do i just plug up the heating pad? What if it gets to hot?

I consistently check the thermostat, I am going to get a digital one later.

another question how do I know when he is ..... ummm set in?

He is moving a awful lot and seems not to be very stressed out, he is making laps back and forth from the coconuts.

Then stops watches me or my gf then continues....

This is good right? Or is it bad?

you plug in UTH with a rheostat or dimmer if its warm to touch then its to hot. You should get the thermometer with the probe to measure the temp. on the glass. If you have the UTH you do not need the light. With both it could be the cause of him being stressed.

Then I should unplug it, I dont have either of those.

I touched it, it is warm to the touch so I will go buy one!!

Ok so just making sure!

When lamp is on, UTH is off, at night when I go to bed turn the UTH on and lamp off correct?

make sure you get a dimmer or rheostat if the corn is on UTH while on & hot then he could get seriously harmed. If you can't get one till tomorrow put something over glass like tile or reptile carpet to lower the temp. so the corn won't over heat and you can keep it plugged in & get rid of the light till you get the dimmer.

Ok im picking one up today!!

I turned off the UTH for now

I think he was going back and forth because it was too hot on both sides. At night you still need a heat source for the snake. They self regulate if they want to be warm or cooler. So they need to have access to the choice that is why you want a rheostat. So its not too hot to give them a choice, know what I mean?

yeah I am about to go to bed but I am afraid turning off the light and turning on the heat pad I am afraid it wont be warm enough and he will die =(

any quick advice?

Heat will kill a corn much faster than cold will. If you can't hook your heat pad up to a rheostat or thermostat, let him be a little cool for one night. He probably won't develop any lasting issues from one night in room temperature (~70*) but a few minutes in the 120*+ heat an unregulated heat pad can attain is deadly.

ok so I got a night light (bulb) and a lamp with a dimmer so right now he is on the night light untill I find one of those things..

Petmart guy told me not to use it because it can burn him (the heat pad)

isnt that why I am getting the thermostat thing

When you set up your UTH plug it into the thermostat. Once you have the heat regulated you won't need the lamp at all. ...the Petsmart guy is right...it could burn him but yes you are right...it is why you are getting the thermostat. Many pet store guys are ...well...not specifically knowledgable about corns...just snakes in general.

You could actually attach the UTH to the dimmer and control the temp with that instead of waiting. Just start at a low setting and build up to about 84F.

Its built into the cord =( its not separate and I heard you *should* use the lamp and the uth during day and only UTH at night was I told or did I read wrong

you don't need a lamp if you have a UTH corns like belly heat they do not bask. He should have a warm end of about 80-84 degrees & a cool end around 74 degrees. If he has that he needs no other heat source. Remember to measure heat on the glass not the air above UTH a lamp dimmer will be fine if the UTH is hooked to a thermometer. Just turn the dimmer down till the thermomter is in the correct range.

OMG Im so glad you said that I was told 86-90 for high and 78 low it right now is at 86 high and 72-74 at low so that is good right?

Watch to see how he is not all snakes like it to be 86 but that is better then 90. Is that without the lamp? Are you measuring the surface not the air on the warm side? If you are you should be fine and make sure water is on cool side and there is a hide on the warm end & one on the cool end that way he can regulate.

The thermoomater is on the glass on the back inside of the tank on the back side of it one in the cool one in the warm putting in a electronic one tomorrow as well.

Water is on cool side two hide spots one on warm one on cold he doesnt like the hiding spots has not used them yet.

He is actually sitting on the front of the tank near a corner just chilling watching my gf and I or asleep cant tell his eyes are open though

What kind of hides? If it is the same as the small carrier then you should cut a small hole on the side. He will probably find them once all the lights are out & he decides to check surroundings. Good luck looks like you're doing everything right and trying to care for properly. He's lucky to be in responsible hands.

hey are the cool coconut hiding places lol

yeah this was my gf's he might be mine now LOL I didnt think I would fall for a snake LOL but hey anything can happen!

yeah I am trying my best to take care of him

bought him a tree/hiding thing to play on/in need to clean it with bleach and soap tomorrow before I put it in

You should have the probe directly on the glass above the UTH so you can moniter it at its hottest point.
