Well if I move back technically I would a returning native ;)
I was born and raised in Parker, only moved to that other "C" state 2 years ago.

What crazy though, I think I have meet a hand full of people in SoCal that are native.

TIM
Yep, you're okay, you may come back. ;)

I think at least half a dozen people that I went to college with (CO natives by and large) are now living in Cali; it's definitely a popular place (waaay too hot for my tastes though). Or did you mean a handful native to SoCal (in which case all the rest have moved out here?!)

I live 3 blocks from the beach so my house does not get to hot, but my work 25 miles east gets really frikin hot. we were diein today!

Yea native socal people, I have only meet a few. They all moved there :grin01:

28 more hours and I will be havin a beer in CO!!! :crazy02:

Thx Zorro. Yeah, even got Don's book he did.

Tim - yeah, I was stationed in SoCal for a few years, and yep, met a few natives out there. Parker's a growing place these days.

Anyways, here's a question....any particular brand of UTH and thermostat would be recommended? I see that Zoomed is all over the place, they have good products? And, seeing I live a ways from town, any good website vendors for setups?

Thx in advance.

Probably still too hot for me; if it never got above 75, I think that would be fantastic! :grin01: Last summer I did get to go to the beach at night though, and that was really awesome!

I've been using ZooMed UTHs, with just spacing and insulation between them and the tubs/tanks to keep temps from getting too hot. I've got a thermostat and rheostat on the way, which I believe are also ZooMed--I've seen the brand so widely used and recommended on this forum, that I figure it's a good bet. (I'll be replacing the UTHs soon, though, with flexwatt. And at some point I'll likely upgrade to a more expensive thermostat, too.)

I purchased the thermostat and rheostat, along with a pinky pump, from Reptilesupply.com. I put together my own rack mostly using stuff from Target (a set of adjustable shelves--2, actually, so that I could have more shelves on one rack, lol--and variously sized Sterilite tubs with secure lids). I expect that other people on this forum can recommend good online stores that sell made-for-snakes racks and such. There are also several diy plans floating around for building your own racks and accessories.

I might be up your way for a interview this weekend I hope!!
My sis lives in Windsor so I might be moving there.

Sorry not meaning to jack the thread.

Nice! What kind of interview? Planning on moving? Windsor is a nice place, Fort Collins gets a little big for me sometimes.

Meg....Thanks so much. Just checking to make sure. As far as the spacing, do ya use just the spacers that come with the UTH or do ya use something else?
I just read a thread on plastics and melting points, seems like I'll be able to use my small acrylic tank till I upgrade to a larger cage for my snake that I'll be getting. Not long now :)
Thanks again

For spacers I've just been using some scraps of plywood that are laying around in the garage, lol. They raise the tank about 1/2" over the UTH, allowing enough air flow between; in my case, at least, the little spacer feet things wouldn't provide enough space for the heat to dissipate. (For insulation, I use things like old dish towels.)

Hope you get your snakey soon! :D Are you going to go with the Miami Phase?

I have a interview at a Hot Rod shop in Windsor. Yea I am going to try to move back in a month or two.
Windsor is nice, my sister has lived there for 8or9 years.

Yeah, I think so.....but.....hahahaha....I really like the blizzards, carmels, butters.....sheesh.....I think the first one will be the Miami.
Ok, stupid question here......you mentioned dish towels for an insulator.....what are ya insulating? And, do ya have your tank on a regular aquarium stand?

Hey Tim - that's pretty cool. I've got family from Windsor. I think I might still have some relatives up there and Greeley. Good luck!

I know the feeling! Now that I've got my anerys, I'm really torn as to what to get next! :grin01: (I'm leaning toward an Aztec or lavender though, so maybe I'll combine those two. But there are several other morphs that are also high on my list, lol.)

The tank in question is a glass aquarium sitting on my window seat, which is covered with carpet. The tank is raised up using the plywood pieces, as I mentioned before, and I've got a Zoomed UTH under one end. There's a dish towel or two folded up and placed on top of the UTH; they're not packed between, and I folded/layered as much as needed to keep the temp of the above glass at 85.

Ok, makes sense now. Thank you for letting me know. Any problems with the dish towels getting too hot?

Well, I ordered a UTH, thermostat and hygrometer today from reptilesupply.com. Got the tank already. So once those things are in place, I'll get my snake :)

The towels did get pretty toasty, but no where near singeing, much less combustion--think about how hot a clothes drier can be. It's moot now, though, because my rheostat and thermostat came in at the end of last week and I've got those hooked up now. :D The towels are out, although the plywood is still there to keep the tank from resting on the UTH cord.

Looking forward to hearing about your new snakey, and to seeing pics!

Alright, that makes sense now. Thanks a bunch.
Yeah, really looking forward to the new arrival. I definitely get some pics on this when I do. :)
