Hi all!

I'm new to this site, and relatively new to corn snakes-- I had one when I was about ten years old, but we had gotten him as a tiny baby at an expo and he was rather sickly (despite multiple vet visits) and sadly passed away before I really got a chance to experience having a snake.

About a week ago I adopted a beautiful 3-year-old Okeetee named Seamus, and he is brilliant! He's a great eater, very tame and even affectionate :) I'm having so much fun so far!

Anyway, I guess that's a good introduction :)

Welcome to the forum! This is a great place to research, and post pictures! You must post pictures! :)

I have four corns, 3 are bloodreds, and one is a caramel. I also have 2 bairds rat snakes, one spotted python, and one western hognose. I started with just one snake too and look what happened! Its a very addicting hobby so you will probably want another, soon :)

I am actually from the NW suburbs, near Lake Zurich IL. Im just currently traveling but will be back in October. You should go to the NARBC show in Tinley Park, its October 8-9. I will definitely be going! http://www.narbc.com/pages/chicago.htm

I can picture myself getting many more snakes eventually-- however, as a college student who might need to move out in a year or so, I think Seamus is enough for me right now c: I'm sure it'll be easier to find an apartment only having one pet snake than a whole menagerie!

Your babies all sound beautiful! Hognoses are absolutely adorable c: I'm also in the NW suburbs of Chicago actually-- I'd heard about the NARBC show and definitely plan on going! Thank you for the link, and thank you so much for the warm welcome :D

welcome to cornsnakes.com! im from northwest indiana, and i have to say i rarely run into herpers from my vicinity on here, so its good to see some. maybe ill make it to the expo in october....if im lucky!

Really? I know a few people who are really into reptiles and amphibians around here... Ever been to one of the Herpatological Society expos? I went to one when I was little that was at University of Illinois at Chicago-- that's where I met a corn snake for the first time :) It was pretty cool, I recommend going if you ever get the chance!

no ive never been to any expos, i really want to sometime though! i live in kind of a desolate area where there are more cows than people i think, so the herpers are far and few. i was living in chicago for awhile though, i hope to get back there eventually. let me know of any good expos coming up via a message sometime if you happen to think about it =p

Welcome! If you are a FB person you should check out the Herp group Windy City Reptiles. They are a nice group of people. Many of there members visit with me at the bimonthly Wheaton, IL, All Animal Expo. They will also have a table at the NARBC. So if you go you can stop by and check them out. It's fun to chat with people that have like interests.

i think i already tried to add them if i recall correctly, and never got a friend confirmation =\. but i could be thinking of another group on there. ill look them up and find out. thanks for the welcome and the heads up for the fb group =]

Hi there,
I too am new to corns and to this site. I'm out in the sticks of northwestern IL. I've had my little guy for about a week and half now. I got him at my local pet shop. I think he's about to start shedding but idk, he's kinda hazed over and so are his eyes and has no appetite right now. I want to make sure if he's gonna shed, the humidity is where it should be... it says its at about 60 percent? good? bad?

I kept my guy's at about 70 percent when he was shedding and someone told me on this site that that was good for a shedding snake-- my guy shed no problem c:

Welcome to the group! There are several of us here from the Chicago area. I'm in the city now but moving to the north suburbs in the next month or two. The shows are fun but be advised, if you go, it's highly unlikely you will leave without another corn...especially if you run into Terri's table! :)

60% is good. if his eyes are cloudy/blue theyll clear up soon, and after that he should shed about 2 days after theyve cleared. but dont panic if it takes a bit longer. you can spray him with room temp water in a spray bottle to keep him moist. just do it a few times a day. some people make a humid hide, by using moss from the petstore and getting it damp and putting it into a small container that the snake will fit in, that has a hole for entering/exiting. but i use the spray method for my grown snake because he wont use a humid hide. hope this helps. and welcome to the site and to the your new obsession =p
