hey everyone, this is my first time here, and i think it is a really cool site. I just started to get into reptiles and corn snakes and i think they are pretty cool.. i really hope to get one soon. I just been reading all that I can and trying to understand that way i am able to take care of a corn snake the right way.I have been reading alot of posts on this forum and am very thankful for all of the detailed info that everyone has put on here. I have learned so much. i really like corn snakes and I dont know why..lol.. I work at petco in new york and the only time I can to see them or play with them really is when someone wants to buy one. If I can get all the info i need and the funds are looking right i plan on getting one by the end of the month. and Dont worry i know that to by one from petco..lol...There is a reptile expo in upstate ny that i will be going to at the end of the month.. i might get a butter corn snake there, or even a blood red.
But i have a few questions if no one minds answering. (if the questions are in the wrong place just let me know and i will copy and paste it in the right spot.thanks).
1) Does it matter if I feed them frozen pinkes from petco or should I or should i not feed them live pinkies that I could get online or at another local pet store(not big chain), which is better for them.?

2) Did any1 on here used to feed live pinkie/mice/rat and changed to frozen for whatever reason and why? or vise vesa?

3) Is there any kind of law that you cant sell cornsnakes under a certain size. I know for turtles you cant sell them under 4 inchs. I want to get a baby cornsnake. is there such a thing? or do most people buy there "baby" corn's at 5 or 6 months of age.

4) Is there any1 on this forum that lives in the new york area,or even better brooklyn(thats where I live). I would just like to know where did you/do you can your corn's from? how is it dealing with them since it is starting to get cool outside?
Thanks for all the answers in advance guys. I look forward to posting on this site and getting and giving feedback as I learn more.

Hi Welcome to the Forum!

1) It doesn't matter where you get the frozen pinkies just as long as you feed frozen thawed mice.. I would recommend getting them online or even at the expo if you can. You can buy in bulk and save a lot of money rather than buying one from petco everytime.

2) I have not fed live mice to any of mine. But I know one of my snakes only fed on live before I got her. I switched her over to frozen thawed no problem. I would say frozen thawed is your best bet. As the snake gets larger the live rodents can fight back because they are larger. Pinkies can't do any damage but a full grown adult mouse could bite or scratch your snake.

3) There is no law on a certain size of Cornsnake. Typically baby corns are called hatchlings. Usually reputable breeders won't sell the hatchling corn until they have eaten 2 or more meals for them. When looking for a baby corn make sure they are active, alert and feel strong. No kinks or any other problems that would seem obvious. If they are not strong or active and alert, it might mean they are sick, or possibly not a very good eater and don't have the energy to move around.

4) Can't help you on the last question.. I'm from Ohio. Lol.

Hope that helps, and again welcome to the forum! :)

Hi there! Welcome aboard!
I just started posting myself, been lurking for a while. This is a very informative and fun site :)
Sorry I can't recommend anyone either - I'm at the other end of the country in Ca!

Hello and welcome to CS.com. You're asking good questions. We also adopted a rescued corn that was only fed live and had no probems switching over to frozen.
Look up Vinman he's a breeder that in New York, I think in the Bronx.
