Hello From Wisconsin!

ZoologyGirl

Under Tank Heather
Hello everyone, newbie here.

Just a quick intro (hopefully quick, I tend to ramble)

Well, as my handle suggests I'm a girl, and I'm in to zoology (U of Wisc 07 B.S. grad...though haven't decided to go any further with my education as of now). As my thread title suggests, I'm from Wisconsin...just south of Green Bay...and freezing my butt off!

Anyway, I've joined this site because I've recently decided I'd like to acquire a corn snake, and I'm in my pre-acquisition research phase. I've learned quite a lot in my first couple weeks of researching...and I hope to learn more. This will be my first venture into the world of reptiles and I've decided upon a corn snake because I've read it's a good way to be introduced into the reptile world...I love all the color variations...and it seems a good fit for my lifestyle.

I do have a few non-reptilians currently residing with me. Including:
2 Cats
2 Birds (Green Cheeked Conure and a Budgie)
1 Dog (Chinese Crested....yes, the mostly hairless kind)
1 Hedgehog
And a couple fish

I shooting for getting a corn a few months from now (possibly march or april...if I can wait that long). Mostly it's just time to save up some money for various necessities...and to smooth things over with the boyfriend (he's not too keen on my animal collection...but that's what you get for being with an animal nut). I'm thinking I'll bribe him by letting him get some big purchase (as with the dog...I got a dog...he got a motorcycle, heh, lol)

Anyway, nice to meet you all, I can't wait to collect more information...and hopefully ultimately getting my first corn snake, and soon!

Badgers REPRESENT! Yeah!!

Welcome to the forums....and don't worry, they're freezing their butts off in Texas tonight, too!

(Ashwaubenon? DePere?)

And if you can hold out until June/July, you'll have a LOT of new hatchlings/morphs to choose from.

Welcome to the addiction!

Welcome to the forums!! We actually have another member who is a zoology major!!

Sounds like you have some great animals already!! A Hedgehog?! I'd love to see pics of that!!

I agree that a corn is the best way to start- that's how I started with reptiles... :p

This is a great site for information- and I'm sure you'll find a lot of information here!

Welcome again to the forums and to the addiction!!

Maybe I can get a pic of my hedgehog and 1 of my cats to work, let's see...

You have to be a contributing member to edit a post...

But I usually use photobucket.com to post pictures, it's free, you just upload a pic and then use the links they provide you with to post a picture. :)

EDIT::

I posted too late, I guess,

Bust that is AWESOME!! I never knew you could have a hedgehog for a pet!! What is their temperament?

Mine has a very calm temperment. I think it differs from where you get them from. Most in pet stores are usually skiddish and not very friendly...as they generally did not have much handling. I got mine from a breeder and she was calm from day 1. She used to curl up and fall asleep in my hand while I watched tv. She's only bit me once..and I think that was because I had some food residue on my finger and she mistook my finger for food...but it didn't break the skin. She's a cutie, but getting up there in age and a little more cranky. Plus she gets dry cracked ears so I have to use cocoa butter on them and she hates her ears touched! But all in all she's very good.

Sounds like our lab!! They're prone to ear infections and he hates having them touched!!

I never ever thought of a hedgehog as a pet- and I've never seen one at a petstore but I'm going to have to look now! Yours is ADORABLE!! I'm telling my boyfriend about it now and his only response is that if we had one he would "spraypaint it blue and name it Sonic"! (Which I would never let him do..) Thanks for sharing though, and I would love to learn more about them!!

Back on topic though, your response about it biting you once and it being ok sounds like you're ready for a cornsnake!!

Definitely spend some time on here and you'll learn all you need to know about them!
