HELP! A new weird problem

I wrote on Friday about my snake regurging after feeding 5 days before. I haven't touched her or given her any new food, and she is acting weird. Or weird as far as I know. First she is three months old, I had trouble getting her to eat, I finally got her to take a brained F/T pinkie and then 5 days later she regurgitated it. Now, she has been lying out in a corner of the tank (she has always been a hider), and her body seems to still have some thickness to it and her body is contracting. It seems to be expanding and contracting as if there is something else in her system. First, is this normal? Second, if not is there anything I can do?

First of all, let me say that I have no knowledge of what you are describing, but it sounds like it might be something more suited for a qualified vet to diagnose. :shrugs:
Second, what are your temps? I've very occasionally heard of regurges so long after eating, but it has me wondering if the temperatures are too low and keeping the pinky from being digested properly.

Sounds like she could be breathing heavilty. I'd take her to a vet to rule out RI

Or anything else that could be wrong with it.

RI symptoms are bubbles in the mouth/nose, open-mouth breathing, etc. I think it would be very hard to get an RI if the temperatures are correct, but who knows.

The expanding & contracting just sounded like it was having trouble breathing to me. Of course, Nobody can diagnose anything over a computer! Was just guessing. A vet is always the best thing to do if you think your animal has a problem.

Since before, it regurged after 5 days, I wouldn't be surprised of the temps were too low--again, just guessing.

Just an update. I called the reptile shop I bought the snake from and the manager was more than willing to do a trade with me. He said he got these babies from a new breeder and I was the fourth person to have problems with feeding/digesting. I took it in and she was acting very strange. She definitely has something in her belly as she is distended and not moving well at all. I fed her in an empty bag, so I don't have a clue what it could be. Anyway, I know I could have taken her to a vet, but since she was so new and already having problems, I didn't want to invest more money in an unhealthy snake. I now am the proud owner of a beautiful 8 month old 3 ft. light orange corn. She ate already a full mouse and is so far doing beautiful. As far as the temps go, I still believe they are alright from air temps at 75 to 1/3 of tank under substrate at 85 going down to 76 at cool end. Thanks for all your advice. I'll take a picture soon and post it!

this was her last thread: link. that might give you a little info on her temps and setup.

Debsi, what you are describing also sounds to me like heavy or labored breathing. This can be a sign of a respitory infection, or something else wrong. I know in your last post that you wanted to get a snake for your kids because snakes are easy to care for, have no scent, and don't require a lot of attention. All of this is true. but what you need to understand, is just like all other animals, they can get sick, have problems, and if your care is not complete in every way, you will cause problems. Sometimes these problems will require a trip to a herp vet to get diagnosed and or cured.

Have you been able to contact the person in which you bought the snake from? ask them about feeding schedules and so forth? or did you get your snake from a pet shop? if from a pet shop, usually with in 15 to 20 days, you can return a non feeding animal, a sick animal, or get the pet shop to pay for a vet visit. But, if you have had the snake for 3 months as you say, then you are more than likely out of your warranty period. If you end up getting another snake (Which I hope that you decide to do if this one doesn't make it) find a private breeder close to you, or even accross the country from you that knows what they are donig and can provide you with a strong animals, full feeding, shedding, and weight facts. As well as giving you a garuntee much better than most pet stores would even dream of.

Well, that answered most of the questions and points I brought up in my last post, and I am glad that you were able to get things turned around. good luck with the new one, and hope that things go better for you this time.

3 ft. long at 8 months???? You must have the godzilla of snakes! Glad you were able to get the shop to make good for you. Surprising actually!

my thoughts exactly.............
too bad for the little one (or i guess 4 little ones). hopefully this shop is a respectable place, because obviously he is buynig from this new breeder who is not very good. could be that your pet store guy could be getting some "killer" deals on snakes that have not eaten and/or are not eating at the time of sale. :shrugs:
anyway, congrats on a newer healthy one to care for.
