right well heres the story,i was just cleaning out one of my ball pythons hides because he had pooed in it and had monty (the python) in my other hand over the tank.suddenly monty flew off my hand in2 the tank and on to his branch.i looked in to see the scareyest sight ive ever seen.abit of his skin was hanging off with whitish flesh underneith.hes quite due to shed (couple of days away so would this be his weak old skin comming away and new skin will replace it?or do i need to find a vet?wb any ball python owners with ideas!
also the area is very small, about a centimetre squared.but hes not very old!

Did he catch the skin on the branch when he "jumped" in? If he's due to shed, the skin may be very dry and ready to come off and he just caught it on a rough spot and removed it prematurely. Does the skin underneath look broken? If not, I would perhaps just have paper towel in his enclosure for now to avoid any substrate possibly irritating it, and then watch it. If it was a minor injury they usually heal quickly. Their skins are pretty tough.

I think you need to inspect him closely and determine if there is actually a full-thickness skin flap peeled up, or if it's just a layer of shed that is separating. White and no scale markings sounds like he's peeled up the whole layer to me. You probably realistically can't see a vet till Monday morning, at which point it's not going to be possible to stitch, if that would have been done when fresh- I don't know if they even do that for snakes.

I'd do as Meg says, get rid of any substrate so nothing can get in the wound, and just leave it alone.

Meg, do you think the skin flap, if that's what it is, will reattach?

Oftentimes skin will spontaneously reattach or seal together if the edges are clean. It just depends upon what it looks like. If there's not bleeding, I wouldn't have too much of a heart attack at this point.

I had this happen to my boa. Apply neosporin twice a day for a week or so, and make sure there is no substrate that can irritate the wound. It should more or less heal over with the next shed, but there will be some minor scarring.

thanks guys.ye am already making sure the section is kept clean.a mate of mine is comming over tomorrow to give me her verdict.(she owns 2 ball pythons and 1 reticulated)
