Well, after a lot of pestering, ive finally been given the green light to get a new snake, but i cant decide what i want!! So far the snakes ive narrowed down to, but can change in a second, are...

*n. pine or hypo stillwater bull - ive lumped these two together b/c i really like them both and ive wanted to get a pit for a long time. i also like their larger size but not so monstrous as to be danger for just one person to handle.
* hog island boa - i like everything about these too.
* black blood python - a near black blood with crazy orange eyes!!! oooh i love 'em. im up to the task of housing one of these bad boys and even though i can handle (or atleast try) the process of taming a young nippy one, i really dont want to end up with a large super aggressive snake w/ matching huge teeth!
* dumerils boa - see hog isl. boa

I cant decide which way i want to go. HELP!!!!!1 hehe. some photos of your own animals may help me decide *hint - hint*

As for the blood python - I've heard people say that there are a lot more docile ones than what people think.

Just to throw a wrench in things - have you looked into carpet pythons?

thanks. i already have a carpet, awesome snake, but just looking for something a little different. ive been reading for days on end about bloods ( yeah im a nerd) and there do seem to be many tame ones, but there are also plenty of stories about ultra aggressive cbb ones that will go for the face! not really what i want. it seems to be a 50/50 chance

Thats easy...The Hog Island Boa of course. You just can't go wrong with a Boa.. ...But, I'm Biased...I think they are the greatest. :crazy02:

Edit: Since there are two boa's on the list...pick the one you like the best and go with that. just my vote as I said before...can't go wrong with a Boa. :)

I am a Pit fan for sure.. :) I own 7 myself.

I would skip the Blood, I own one and man she is difficult. She isn't an easy feeder right now and she is aggressive for sure. And this snake will get up to 40 pounds and be as big as a burm but not as long. Max out around 9 feet for a good female. And they have a temper.

Now if you want something different I would go with either Pits, or even Rosy boas. Now they do not get big but are cool to have. I love my squishies.

Oh by the way, there are a few of us with 6 foot or larger pits here. I have a female Sonoran Gopher and she is a handful. She nipped my girl friend the other day. She said it was one of the more nastiest bites she received by our snakes.
She claimed it was like a vise on her hand. Me, never bitten by her. She is fine with me.

I would decide to the hog island boa..I love all kinds of Boas..(This could be because i keep b.c.i.)
They are nice and friendly (most times;) )

But in fact you have to decide what you like mostly...

Regards
Sandy

thanks for the input so far everyone. this isnt a life or death decision, but man this is so hard!! hehe.

and trickstr how many snakes do u have? ive seen ur mbk, black milk, 7 pits, blood, etc .... man, i bet cleaning day is fun!

Honestly, I'd go with a Hog...you'll not regret it. They're amazing little Boa's...and they're a definite color changing boa as they progress from juvies to adults.

Everyone who's got any pituophis seem to love them. Bulls are coming in more and more varieties now and they're a growing favorite of mine. I've never been tagged by an adult pit, but if the juvie bite I got at last weekend's reptile show was any indication of how it'd feel as an adult, I believe tricksterpup's girlfriend.

I thought that 90'ish gram juvenile albino Bull was my Cuban Knight Anole. It didn't hurt per se, but good god I could definitely feel the pressure on my index finger.

I'd pick the Pit. I got a Northern Pine and he's brilliant huffing and puffing all the time. It adds a new dimension to snake handling. (no problems, just you get a sound track..LOL)

WOW that pine is amazing!!!!! and great video, that hiss sent a shiver down my spine!! haha. so i guess right now ive narrowed it down to a hog isl or the pits. thank you very much!

Got a question, how big to they get?
Thanks

Pure bred females are desired to get no larger than 6ft. 'Most' adult females tend to average between 5-6 ft. Males are typically 4-5ft when adults.

There are a lot of non-pure lines out there though. They're crossed with RTB's a lot, so sometimes what people 'think' are pure-bred actually have RTB blood somewhere down the line and can get a little bigger. (7-8ft)

If you're interested in getting one, get one from someone who KNOWS they're breeding pure lines. :)

There's no choice.. Pits are the way foreward.. Wickedly impressive.. I show people my carpets balls and corns but they all remember sid.
