HELP!! MISSING SNAKE!!

bryansnake

She got out while I was sleeping. It was about 4 hours of sleep, and I've been looking for about 45 minutes now. I dunno where to look any more. I've checked every shoe, every nook and cranny I could see, along the baseboards, the heaters, under the fridge, stove and hot water tank. All the windows and doors in here are shut and locked. The only thing I can think now is that she may have gotten into the walls or behind the door trim somewhere. What can I do to find her? I don't want her to freeze to death.:(

Ok take a UTH put it on a t-stat and set it for 84 f and put a f/t mouse on it then I hide over that.Put a lot of towels and hides all over the place along the walls. You could also make bottle traps.Put flour on any tile wood or vinyl floors.
Are you sure the snake isn't still in the cage somewhere?Remember to stay calm, your snake will turn up somewhere at sometime.

definitely not in there. I took everything out, and went through the substrate. nothing in the tank. I don't even know how she got out. When I looked the viv was all sealed up like nothing was wrong except it was cold, which was surprising. That's when I opened the door to take her out so I could warm her up in my hands, and found she wasn't there.

Where are some more places I could look? The only thing left now I haven't checked that I could see are literally holes in the wall. One in the bathroom sink cabinet (closest) and one in the laundry room wall.

At what point do I have to worry about her getting too cold and freezing to death? or Will she curl up and hibernate, which will make it even harder to find.

Ok well, I found that snakes love towels, check everywhere 100 times and think of places you haven't looked.A bottle tap is a trap made from a bottle(i couldn't find one on here)Look in chairs and any potted plants you may have. She will look for places small and warm if you have a sub woofer with a big hole in it look in there.I'll try to get a few links for you.

I will. Right now the only places I haven't look, are the corner behind the water tank cause I can't fit, and behind the walls. What's worse is that I don't even know how she got out. If I knew I could fix it. Like plug a hole or something. But The viv was tight. The only thing I can imagine is she either pushed the top up enough to get out. Which I find hard to believe cause I trouble pushing it without it squishing my finger painfully. Or she pushed the glass doors open somehow. Which I can't even do. I really don't understand how she got out.

Well if their heads can get through their bodies can.Put a hide right near the water tank. You never know if they are moving to different spots and so you can't find them.If you have a dog or cat pay attenion to them.Any book shelves look in them in he books even.

BTW I don't think there is a way to block access to an area.

well. at the moment I put down a bunch of crinkled plastic bags, and I'm listen for the sounds of movement. I'm gonna pick up some flour now when I run out and pick up some pinkys too. She ate the last one I had on hand thursday, so I wan't too worried to get some more just yet. What's sad is that this isn't even the first time she escaped. I blame myself for the first one as I think I left her door open when I was think to fix a stick on thermometer. I found her quickly that time. She crawled under a bucket up back up substrate and curled up. She wasn't there this time :(

Ok well if thats the case then she knows she can get out,if I were you In would get a Zilla cage as it is very hard for them to get out of them.I am very sorry that she got out.I can't think of any other places to look rite now.

What kind of hide did you have in tank? I have heard of more than one story of an "escapee" being found inside of a plastic log hide that has a hollow part.

Bryansnake...Don't expect her to just be cruising around in plain sight (especially in the daytime hours), okay? You have a pretty good chance of finding her if you keep your head and use these tried and true methods. So, take a few deep breaths and read this information. Good luck.

it's a rock shaped dome essentially. I've got baited bottle traps and a heated baited hide set up around. as well as corn starch put around the edges of the walls. and I've checked, and rechecked the tank. I took everything out and went through the substrate handful by handful.

And the tank that I am using is an exoterra repti tank. the lid is tight fitting when the twist locks are turned (tight enough to hurt my fingers). and the front glass doors are pretty tight too when the swivel lock is turned.

I also just had an escapee for the first time in just over a year. Really makes you realize just how much you enjoy them, especially if it's an individual you've had a long time or the first one you ever got. D:

I would definitely try the bottle traps. Cut a pinky in half and only use that for one so you can have twice as many traps, and the smell of rodent is very strong.

If you're a bit of a night owl and have a quiet house at night, you could also try being quiet and just listening for light rustling (like against papers).

well. luckily for me I am a night owl. most of the noise at night is keyboard clicking. and the occasional footstep upstairs. I've got crinkled plastic bags everywhere. even a roll of christmas paper partly open. 95% of the walls are cornstarch'd. The other 5% being I can't reach it, or the other spots around it already are. I've couch my couches which was hard since my seats aren't meant to come out. And I have 3 bottle traps, and 1 baited warm hide in my room. Unfortunately for me. 2 of the traps are next to wholes in the wall :( opens to access a plumbing vent.

I hope I find her tonight. I'm anxious about things by nature, and now that she's missing I'm pretty much freaking out.

And thank you everyone for your help and support. It's very appreciated

I read about people using tape to trap their snakes. What's your experiences with it? Too dangerous. As a note, the only tape I have here is black electrical, and green painters. And she's already gotten stuck to the electrical before when she pried the thermometer wire off the wall. I'd like to not go that route do to knowing it can be dangerous, but does it really work well?

One of mine has escaped twice and i found him! The first time it happend he got out of a small hole in his tank so i taped it up with duct tape since it's pretty strong but during the night the heat had loosend the tape and my corn had decided to explore and got pretty much his whole body stuck to it and was looking like he was close to death as he was struggling to move his head ( his head and end of his tail were the only parts not stuck )! I had to soak him in water and gently prize it of him and try not to rip his skin! This was breaking my heart as i thought i was going to lose him but i managed it and he survived with no problems! Would NEVER use any sort of tape again!

Painter's or Masking tapes are easier to use. Any tape residue can be removed with a safe oil such as olive.
