HELP!! MISSING SNAKE!!

I FOUND HER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I went into the kitchen to get a snack after checking all the traps, the cornstarch and the hide. no signs. Went into the kitchen, heard a rustling. Stopped and listened, heard it again. Got down to look under the stove, noticed the plastic bags by the the trash bag, looked, and there she was starting at me from between the bag and the bin. She is now safely in the cage, which I will now be tapping shut.

I'm so relieved now. She's resting in her toasty warm hide now. The glass door is locked and taped. the seems on the glass doors are taped, and the edges around the screen are locked and tapped. For now, it's all I can do. I'm gonna look into those tanks that you guys were talking about now. I don't have the money to spend on a new tank just yet, but I'll keep I'll be looking for when the time comes.

I DON'T BELIEVE IT! She's out again!:(:realhot: I fell asleep around 12, went to check on her around 4. not there. I don't get it! Clearly she knows where there's a hole in her tank somewhere. Looks like 2-3 days for shipping won't be fast enough. and I'll let to set aside tank money now.

Well. New tank is ordered. Now it's just the first game of hide and seek. Followed by a 2nd game of wait and see. This is so frustrating. I need to catch her, but part me says why bother if she can just get out again so easily. Grr. Why sell a tank that can house a snake, when it can't even keep the snake in? Bah! back to trap making...

I'm really starting to question if I'm right for this now. I've always wanted a pet snake. and it in the 11 days I've had her. I've had 3 break outs. 2 of those were yesterday/this morning. One of my managers jokingly calls me the "worst father ever" when I mention stuff like this. I'm starting to believe her now at this point. When I find her this time I'm gonna have to confine her to the dish she was transported in, until the next tank gets here this week. I feel so bad having to do it, but I can't risk her getting out again.

To be honest, that attitude is to your credit. Hard to believe I know, but in your shoes some people would just shrug and go buy another snake.

Once you can get the accommodation sorted out, you strike me as a concerned and concientious owner. Good luck with finding your babe.

well, nothing in the traps this morning. I've got to go to work now so I guess we'll see when I get home. luckily my shifts are only 6 hours instead of 8.

In the first 12 hours or so they usually don't go very far. But I agree with bitsy, you sound more like a good owner doing the right thing. Keep looking. Might want to change that snakes name to Houdini though. lol. But all kidding aside, all snakes are extremely good at escaping. And once they have found a way out they will continue to use that same method over and over. Also, if they found a way out once they seem determined to find a new way if you fix the old method. The smallest opening is all it takes. Fingers crossed that you find her real soon.

Well I'm just home from work. Traps are empty and so is the hide. But I've got all day to sit and listen for any sounds. Time to rebait and add more.

mine climbs anyway. but the last 2 times I found her on the ground, in the colder areas of the house. coat closet and the kitchen. I need to find her. It's all I thought about at work, except for the little bit of time surrounding getting slapped in the face with a pork tenderloin portion...

Yeah, but you are also using a tank that she can get out of.

If you get a fish tank and make sure the top is covered (and weighted or clamped), it will be 100% escape proof. There is no way for them to get out of it. Mine has tried lots of times.

I had actually considered buying one of those reptile display cages and I am really glad I didnt. Fish tanks just seem a lot more secure and its easier to see the snake in them. And frankly, fish tanks are way cheaper too.

Thats what I would do...buy one of those disposable Tupperware things and ventilate it and seal her in.

yeah. I've still got the container that she was shipped in. I'm going to put her back in there for now.

The most frustrating thing is that I don't even know where or how she's getting out of it. This last time, I taped all the opening edges shut and she still got out.
