HELP!!! MY CORN SNAKE'S UPPER LIP [with pic]

i have found that the right part of the upper lip of my corn snake has blackened...is that a problem or what is the solution to this?

I'll be quite honest with you, I'm just guessing here. Looks like it could be mouth rot.
Lets see what more informed have to say.

I'd say its worth a vet checkup to be safe.

Must admit, I'd be off to the vet with that myself.

I've not experienced mouth rot with any of mine (fingers crossed), so can't really comment on that possibility. Hopefully someone will be along soon who has seen it in the flesh and can give an informed opinion.

I have not had experience with an "active" incident of mouth rot, but I have a python that had it years ago. His was left untreated for quite some time, and now part of his lip is gone. It is my understanding that the vet had to remove a lot of necrotic tissue. He doesn't seem to have any trouble eating. As others have said, I would definitely have it checked out.

From the pictures it does not look like mouth rot, ususally there will be a kind of cottage cheese substance inside of his/her mouth. However it does look like something that a vet should take a look at. Do you know of any vets in your area with herp experience? I would not suggets going somewhere that has never dealt with reptiles before

I would say that he is in the early stages of mouth rot. this is defenetly somthing to go to the vet for

It looks more like the pics of abscesses I've seen than mouth rot. But I've never seen either in person, so I can't advise on remedy options...

It looks a lot like the mouth rot I had with a water dragon, but I'll add another vote to trotting it down to your vet right quick.

Off to the vet ASAP, I also think it is an abcess but without being able to see inside the mouth its hard to tell.
Whether an abcess or mouth rot its off to the vet before its too late.

I say get a vet to have a look, that looks pretty bed to me.
Keep an eye on him/her when they have a mouse or what ever they have to eat and see how he/she reacts

Ouch, it looks painful to me so maybe when you next feed possibly if on pinkys probably best off just feeding the head, (if any one thinks I'm wrong feel free to correct me).

I was wondering if maybe the snake was fed on some type of bedding at feed time and then got a peice of bark or aspen shard stuck un in there..... but with being about to see the mouth fulll open,,,, hands on..... its so hard to tell but if it bad enough to make though mouth opn like that.... I agree with getting to a Rep Vet that is used to dealing with snakes. I wish you all the best and look forward to updated pics of if she gets worse but would really like to see the ones where she is getting better

I was thinking the same thing, that it could be some substrate. Seems to be about the right colour to be a small piece of cypress mulch or something similar.
