Help my snake won't eat

bailey

I have a 6 year old corn that hasn't eaten in over 2 1/2 months:( The previous owner told me that he was a breeder and hibernated under his care. I purchased the snake in Febuary with no problems at all up until June when the problem initially occurred as far as feeding is concerned. Blood samples from the vet indicated no respitory problems or infections which is the most promising news. However, I'm still concerned about this feeding problem of his. Is this normal for a breeder who may just have his biological cycle off balance? Do corns ocassionally go without food for weeks or even months at a time?? Any suggestions would be of great help.

If the environment is kept at the right temperature, right humidity level and it has access to fresh water and hide then I wouldn't worry that much yet. For an adult going off feed is not unknown. As long as it's healthy looking, not dehydrated, and isn't losing too might weight then it's alright. Just make sure that the skin isn't going wrinkley...cause when that happens, it usally means that it has lost too much weight.

Just keep offering food on it's regular feeding pattern and it should eat soon.

Good Luck and Happy Herping!!

Dont worry to much just yet he should be fine.
when offering food dont over do it dont try everyday because you might stress him out. Have you tried braining his food or even rubbing the food with an anole snakes love lizards they cant get enuff of them but feed one and they will probably never go back to f/t mice!
keep us informed of ur progress!:)

Why the snake wont eat....

:D Probally because the temperature in the cage isnt right or because it doesnt have a heating light or pad to lay on.

Actually, it could be for any number of reasons but it has most probably just decided not to eat for a while- it's not unusual (to be loved by anyone).

Also, heating bulbs aren't reccomended for corns because they are primarily nocturnal and heat from a bulb can become too intense. it's also cheaper to use a heat mat but now I'm just nagging.
