I am new to corns. Actually I am just trying to get started. Had a few questions maybe someone could help me with. #1 is the debate over what kind of corn to get. I am almost positive I want a juingle corn. I know they are crossed with a King and am wondering about there temperment. Do they act the same as corns or are they more like kings? Would these be just as goog with kids as a corn is? How much bigger (smaller) do they get than corns. Are they more prone to nip or snatch at fingers?
#2 Topic was housing. I have a 40 gal breeder. Is that gonig to be too big to house a small (04) in? I am wondering what the best way to heat that would be and if i might need multiple water bowls to keep him/her happy?
#3 and final topic. Is there a such thing as too small to be handled. I have heard that some people wait up to a year before they start to handle these. I want to be able to play with one and get start him to betamed down after a few days of settling in. I know the little ones sometimes nip but that is a given. Hopefulyl someone can help me!

A YEAR!?? Lemme answer your questions here.

1: I know nothing about jungle corns, but I would assume (being crossed with a king) that they are not as docile as regular corns. I'll let someone else answer that one.

2: 40 gallons is HUGE for a hatchling (a little big for an adult too), but it'll work just fine providing you supply LOTS of hides. Basically making a safe journey to the other side of the tank. Paper towel rolls work great for this, and maybe even two water bowls (always on the cool side). I would suggest putting a heat lamp in the middle so the gradiant temps run cool to either end. That way, the little guy doesn't have such a long trek to warm up or cool down. You'll want 80-85 in the hot spot, and 70-75 in the cool. 68 or below is too cold.

You can always divide the tank if you like also, and a UTH never hurts.

3: A year is rediculous. Bring him home and give him a week or so to get used to his new home to prevent stress. During this time don't start handling at all. If he still seems nervous after this, keep handling to a minimum, or handle him IN the tank for a few minutes a day, and gradually increase the times.

It can take months to fully "tame" a snake.
 
i am the proud owner of a jungle. from all the research and good advice from people on this forum, is that their care is the same as a corn. they are generally smaller than corns because of the king snake in them. mine is full grown at 2and a half feet. as far as gentleness mine is awesome my 3 year old handles it. and because of the king in it it doesn't wiggle and try to get away, so much as a corn.it just chills(sometimes)lol. whats neat about jungles to is that due to the king trait as well, i get to see mine alot during the day. i have a corn to and its just as awesome. the jungles definatley have some cool tendincies though!
 
I had a jungle for awhile he was very docile and easy to handle as far as size he was one of the biggest corns I had at the time at almost 4 1/2 feet and around 700 grams.

I have 3 jungle corns. I love each and every one of them. I think that with regular handling, they are just as tame as corns. My kings are all very tame, as well.

I do not agree that they are smaller than corns, though. Jungle corns are a hybrid between a Calfornia King snake and a corn snake. My Cali kings are MUCH bigger than my corns. I would think that jungle corns have the genetic make-up to be just as big or bigger than corns.

I think a 40 gallon tank is probably too big for a hatchling, but definitely NOT too big for an adult. If you choose to use it for a hatchling, then give him plenty of places to hide. If you see any signs of stress (not eating, regurgitating, etc.) then you should probably move him into a smaller tank until he grows a bit.
 
I've never had a jungle, but have seem them at around the 5ft mark and they do seem handle very well and arn't as "point and shoot" as corns from what i've seen. I want 1 myself buttheir's not that many available in the UK that i have found.

No need to apologize :) I cannot guarantee that yours will grow some more, but there is a good chance that it will. There is quite a bit of variability in their sizes (just like there is with corns).
 
They are supposed to be able to breed. My females aren't big enough to breed, yet. Hopefully I will find out for certain within the next couple of years.
 
ain't they beutiful, if you wont anew home for them....

I know you love em really, and as their so rare over here if i could get a pair i would, but then again my local did (about 2 month's ago) have a king in so i might nip over this weekend, and see if it's still their and see if i can get a breeding program together.

Thanks :) I am glad you all like him so much. He's my favorite, as well. Hopefully I will have some nice babies from him in a year or two.
