ok, so my cousin just gave me his corn snake (he suddenly realized he hates snakes :awcrap:) and i need some help here. i have a corn of my own and he is a sweet heart, but i dont know what to do with this guy. ive had him about two weeks and have left him alone except to feed him. now i want to start being able to hold him, ect. he hasn't been held in nearly 6 months. he is about a yr. old im guessing. any tips on a very hand shy corn?

any help is appreciated :grin01:
 
Just go slow with him. Hold him for short periods. He will be scared at first, but should get used to being held if you work with him.
 
You should be fine starting with short handling sessions. Just be calm and confident. If the snake's not used to being held, it's most likely to tail whip and poop, so have a cloth over your lap and some hand-towels handy. That way you can contain any mess. If it does poop, hold it a little longer so it doesn't learn that holding+pooping=back in viv!
 
yea, im just so used to my calm little guy. ive had him since he was a tiny baby, so he has always been handled. im just a little wary of this guy.
