It won't hurt, if the snake is new to you and you don't yet know whether it will have problems.
You can make a humid hide, which would be better than just leaving a damp paper towel out in the open. Get a plastic tub with a lid, cut a snake-sized hole in the side or lid, and put the damp paper towel in that.
Put it in the snake's tank, about half way between the warm and cool ends. Only put it in once the snake goes blue. If they decide to sit in it for a long time when it isn't necessary, you run the risk of health problems.
Most of mine shed just fine without a humid hide, but it might give you peace of mind while the pair of you get used to each other. After a couple of sheds, you could find that you don't need it at all.
