I have a 10 gallon tank for my corn. I have a heat lamp about 8 inches above the tank. She will get up to the top of the tank and wedge herself under the lid.

Is this because she is not getting enough heat? I'm afraid to lay the lamp on the screen, fearing she will burn herself if she goes to the top. I turn her lamp on first thing in the morning, and turn it off when I go to bed. Is that ok?

Please give me some advice.

Thanks.

well could you tell us what the current temps in the viv are? on the warm/cool side?

I'm not entirely sure I understand, but it sounds like the lamp is suspended 8 inches above the lid of the tank. If so, that sounds good. Putting the lamp right on the screen would be inviting trouble.

She might be trying to get more heat or she might just like to climb and hang out in that spot. I've had snakes that just liked to hang out higher up in the viv.

If you do any reading around here or ask for opinions on the subject (which I realize you haven't) most people will suggest under tank heaters (UTH) rather than lamps. For most people, UTHs are easier to control and just work out better. Many people also use lamps with no problems.

The best advice I can give is to get a digital thermometer with a probe, if you haven't already. That will allow you to know the temps and adjust your set-up accordingly. If the thermometer has a min/max function you can check to see how cold it got overnight with the lamp off or how hot it got during the day with the lamp on.

I'm not sure if that covered your question or not :shrugs:

The temp feels fine. I could not tell you an exact temp. Should I be able to?

YES! You should know the temperature and not go by how it "feels". What feels right to you isn't necessarily what is right for your snake.
