My baby Abbott's got out in the last couple of days, he was in a secure 20 long w/ screen top and latches on it. It was latched, and he isn't in there. I have flour ( no corn starch & a 2l trap w/ pinkie in it). My house is old and It could get under the floor boards. I really don't understand how he got out. Any suggestions???? and the bigger problem is that we built a homemade home for our bigger snakes, well we had some flaws in the beginning and 2 are missing, I know it sounds like we are bad snake keepers. If he runs into one of them or my cat he is gone.

Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated, I didn't have him out yesterday but I believe i had him out monday.

Thanks!

This is killing me, they are my kids.

Couple of suggestions, he will me more attracted to water than he will a pinkie. He can go a long time with out eating. There is no water in the house he can get to.

He would be attracted to heat like a heating pad, especially if it were under some news paper so he could “hide” there.

I would put the heat pad and newspaper some place secure, like in a closet or under a sofa. Some place the dogs and cats can not get. Also, place a small bowl of water in the same area. Your snake sees dogs and cats as natural predators and will probably not come out to drink their water.

Good luck finding your snakes.

Put some strips of cheap 1/4 inch wide masking tape all over (tape trap) that worked for me. I say cheap cause it's hard to get the snake off of the good tape. If you catch the snake in the tape room temp water will help get the tape off (just don't drowned the snake)

Are you positive he's not in there? Twice I've "lost" a snake and it's really been in the viv- I just didn't look hard enough. Does he have any fake tree branches he can get inside of through a tiny hole, anything like that?

my brother and I took and sifted the substrate to another container, and he wasn't in there, we looked in his hides, plus I didn't see him the day before and he usually makes an appeance. This is killing me, I keep trying to figure out he got out!

That's happened to me twice, with the fake tree branches. My snake went "missing", but having had the experience once before, I knew she couldn't have escaped and when I left a pinkie out overnight, it was gone the next day. My husband managed to make the hole a little larger, and when I finally saw she was out, immediately removed it, and he sealed the hole with silicone.

They like to hide in the tightest, darkest places. I hope you find her!

Well, I don't have any suggestions for finding them once they are out. Luckily, I haven't had any experience with that. But I can recommend using velcro on your screen lids. I used the clips in the beginning and they weren't worth the price, so I don't use the clips at all anymore. I just cut velcro lengthwise and evenly space ~2" strips along the inside of the lid and along the top edge of the tank. That's the only thing I use on my screen lid and I've never had an escape. One in a while, when my granite was smaller and would wedge herself between the lip of the tank and the lid I could hear the velcro under stress when she pushed on it, but she never managed to get it the slightest bit loose. Now she's too big to even fit along the edge.

You know what, I was gonna use clips but now I'm going to use velcro too, that's a great idea!
