Herping in VA?

I'm going camping at the end of next week to Shenandoah, Pocahantas, and Douthat state parks in Virginia. I've never been there before, but it looks gorgeous.

Anyone know of good places to see snakes, or any recommendations/advice for successful herping?

**Nothing will be caught & kept...just want to take a few pictures and see all the species we Canadians miss out on! ** ;)

I can't tell you where to look, but the mountains are still pretty cold so I don't know if you'll find anything. And you're right, its gorgeous, I went up to Shenandoah last week. If you get the chance, just take a drive up Skyline drive. And maybe go eat dinner in Skyland. It so nice.

Thanks for the advice...I will definitely try to check out Skyline drive! If you have any other (non-herp) related suggetions, I would love to hear them! :)

If you want a pretty hike, you should try White Oak Canyon. I think its about 4 hours round trip. It has the best waterfalls.

We are going to Greenbrier State Park in Hagerstown, MD at the end of the month. Last summer we saw a couple of garters. This year we are going to look for corns and take pics, but not take them!
