Herpstat: Needing Input....

Kalista

New member
It's been about two years and I am ready to start putting things together to get another corn snake. I remember the basics and am starting to get things together to set up a viv. However, the last time around I had a Herpstat ND which I see has been discontinued. Sadly, it got lost in one of the moves so I am starting new again.

I'm planning on having one corn in an aquarium tank setup with an UTH. I know that I want proportional heat control, and specific high/low temp alarms. Other than that I'm not sure. I am trying to decide between the Intro+ and 1 Basic.

I don't know Which is more important - the safety power relay that is advertised on the 1B or the grounded plug on the Intro+. What is the purpose of the advanced pulse proportional control on the 1B?

Any input would be greatly appreciated!

I think that would be a great question for the owner of the company, Dion. He's always been really helpful to me. He is a member here- his user name is Spyderrobotics. And that is also the Herpstat website. So you could send him a PM or contact him through his website.

I still have a ton of old faithful Herpstat NDs, which continue to run perfectly, and one from the generation before that! I haven't bought any from the current line-up (well, except one for a present for someone, who loves it!)

I think, for the number of additional features you get for $24 more than the Herpstat 1 Basic, I would get the Herpstat 1. You never know where you'll be, in regards to keeping snakes, 10 years from now, 20 years from now, and I would bet that if at some point in the future you wanted to use that Herpstat to run a rack, it would still be working perfectly.

Just thought I'd update this with the response in case it could be helpful for someone in the future!

Kalista,

For that setup I would go with the Intro+. The safety relay gives you a
built in backup solution. You are running a low power heat mat so you won't
need the additional power of the Herpstat Basic model and most heat mats
only have 2 prong cords so you won't need the grounded outlet. The pulse
proportional mode is only needed on metal rack systems because they can
sometimes emit a humming when used with dimming style proportional control.

Hope that helps!
