twice now (in the same week) zestoe fell off the top shelf inside of his cave-like hide and was totally still... i dont get it...
he was upside down and just in the exact same position he had fallen in. and i just lightly tapped on the glass to get him to move... and he slowly got himself right and went back to the top shelf..
he is on the warmer side and the temp is 79 degrees...
he was also in his blue peride earlier this week and i have been waiting to feed him until he sheds... i normally feed on friday, its now tues... and still no new skin...

what do i do?

please help-- this is my first corn.. and he is about 2 months old....
his fist shed happened a week after i got him, and went fine...

people may disagree but. . .

try feeding him, if he takes it, your OK, if he dosen't then feed after his shed, i am presuming he will shed some time this week, and as for the falling, you'll have to wait until someone with more experience views this thread, SORRY!!

Tell us all about your setup, dimensions, tempertures at different parts, how you heat, how you measure the temp, pictures are sometimes helpful. The more we know, the better we can give you an answer that will help.

Some snakes will eat when in shed, others won't. I suggest you try to feed him, and if he eats ok. If he doesn't, then just wait until he has shed. Just be on the lookout for a regurge, since some snakes will regurge if fed too close to a shed. If he does regurge, wait 10 days to feed again, and don't feed when in shed any more.

I always offer all my snakes food, no matter whether they are in blue or not. Sometimes a snake in blue will eat, sometimes not. I just let the snake make the decision.

In your post, you said your snake is on the warmer side of the viv, and that it was 79 degrees. You need to raise your temps about 5 degrees on the warm side. Mid 80's is the optimal temp for the warm side.

And as for your snake not moving after having fallen off the top of the viv, even though snakes are very good at surviving falls, especially when landing on something "soft" (versus cement driveway for example), it is still a bit of a shock and they need a moment to recover. 12 inches to a hatchling the size of a pencil may be equal to you falling from a second story window. I'd bet you won't move for a moment after doing that, and actually not recover as fast as your hatchling.

Haha, once my snake first discovered the top of the viv she fell a lot. At first she'd have a stunned period, but then righted herself and went on her merry way, falling and climbing the glass and falling. She doesn't "stun" anymore though. Still falls once in a while. I probably shouldn't laugh at her, but it IS pretty funny.

She takes forever to shed too, once she hits blue it can take her up to a week! I don't think her getting stunned after a fall is a bad thing, I mean, if you had no limbs it would probably shock you too!
