Hi all! My name is Emily and I live in Washington state.

I have loved snakes ever since I was bitten by a rattler when I was helping my mom weed....backwards I know, but I love them!

I am going to be getting a little baby corn snake soon and was wondering what all I should have before I get the little guy or gal.

So far I have:

A 40 gal tank with screen top
A big hide-a-tree
Aspen snake bedding

I'm so excited to be getting my snake! And yet, I have so many questions! I hope you all can help me!

Thanks,
-Em:bird:

Hey Emily. Welcome to the forum from one mostly-a-newbie to another!

If you're getting a hatchling, a 40 gallon tank might be too big. Snakes don't seem to like wide open spaces and while that might be good for a full grown adult, babies are pretty small.

Make sure you have a water dish and an under-tank-heater so you can keep things warm enough for your baby, too.

I'll let the experts give you more advice, but good luck! And post pictures when you get your new friend.

Thanks! I had heard from my local experts that the babies will like being able to explore and I'm going to have lots of hide areas for them...so maybe they wont feel it's too big? But I'll take any advice I can get!

Welcome to CS.com. You should have a hide on both the cool side and warm side. If you are going to use a 40 gal tank then a couple more hide wouldn't hurt. The youngin's can be a little shy, so the more hiding places the better.

Thanks! Luckily I work at PetSmart so supplies are easy to get

I held a little Ghost boy today, and didn't want to put him down...he was such a sweety!

I can't wait :crazy02:

Welcome aboard, Emily! Glad to have you with us.
I completely understand what you're wanting to do with the 40-gallon breeder. Lots of hides, lots of space, several water dishes. The thing is, in theory it works, but in practicality, it can be a nightmare. Sometimes, finding a baby corn in a 10 gallon tank is a chore (under the aspen, under the water dish, in the hides... in HIDDEN HOLES IN the hides, etc). I definitely wouldn't go that route again myself, but if that's what you want to do, then more power to ya! :)

Just a quick question about Washington State... I lived there about a decade ago... when is "tulip season"? I missed it when I was there and can't remember what part of year it is. LOL.

Anyway, good luck finding a new corn friend. If you get the ghost, you definitely won't be sorry. They're an awesome morph! Just look around to be sure!

LOL. I ramble, don't I!? :D

 I'm not the person to ask about flowers...but usually I see them around spring? So like early April?

I have a 10 gallon Aquarium that I used for guppies for a long time, so it's kind of stained, and didn't really want to re-use a fishy tank. I was going to just let the little guy have a mansion lol

But I can see where finding him would be hard....but I'll see what I can do!

Thanks again for all your help!

For the first months you can buy a big plastic box or even a plastic viv. I bought on of that for my little on too, because the snake can't escape (if you close the viv ;) ) and is very cheep. When you snake is bigger you can put him/her in the new 40gallon viv :)
