Hey guys! Wednesday is the big day!

Hi everyone! I have a lovely little 2013 Aztec corn arriving wednesday from BHB! I am so beyond excited!

I have my enclosure all set up, it's a glass tank tipped forward on the front, with a plexiglass cover I made using a tutorial on ball-pythons.net. I think it turned out pretty amazing, if I do say so myself ;). I'll post pics mostly likely when my little snake arrives, the cage isn't so interesting on it's own.

Thanks for all the info I have already gotten from you guys by stalking, and all the info I am sure I will get in the future.

I was told that my snake will be anywhere from 5-8 months old, as it's a 2013 hatchling. Any ideas what the little one will be eating? Two pinkies? A fuzzy? I will most likely go buy food on Wednesday evening after the snake comes so I can see for sure how big the food should be, but any advice would be appreciated!

So excited!

That's so exciting!
Do you have a thermostat for your UTH?
Please do post some photos of your new snake if you take some :) we all love to see. Best of luck!

I follow the Munson Plan. You can google it.

I have a UTH with thermostat, warm side thermometer and another thermometer on the way, a hide on each side, a water dish, and reptibark for substrate. Warm side is sitting at about 86-87. And the cage locks securely. So I am pretty sure everything is under control, but definitely let me know if I'm missing something!

I want to add something for the little one to climb on. I have apple trees in my yard and I use the branches for my budgie, are they acceptable for use in a reptile cage? I generally boil them for a few minutes and then bake them on low heat for an hour or two.

Thanks for the replies! I have heard of the Munson plan on SnakebytesTV, I will definitely google it.

I think I did the picture right. So this is before I set it all up obviously. I just figured I'd post a pic to let you guys see the way I modified the tank. The top section of plexi unlocks with the two cam locks and folds down with the rope hinges. It's 1/4 inch plexi so it has very little flex. I made the ventilation holes 1/4 inch, but I think I need to do something to cover up the hole where the thermometer probe and thermostat probe go in. Ideas?

Looks good. You can use hot glue to fill in around the larger holes. I've used it on a couple vivs and tubs with great results.

Also could you post a link to the tutorial for your door? I'm a member there but couldn't find it.

She's here! She wasn't moving when I lifted the cup out and I almost cried! But when I took the lid off and touched her she perked right up! She seemed very calm and curious. She doesn't look like the Aztec picture on BHB but I didn't really expect her to, she is dang adorable though! So tiny! What do you guys think?

She seems to have a tiny bit of stuck shed on the top of her head, and I'm not sure what to do about it. Her eyes look great so I don't think she has stuck eye caps, just a tiny but right at the top of her head. I don't want to bother her, she chugged water and then went straight for her warm hide.

I would let her settle in for at least a week before you attempt to handle or feed :)
If your humidity levels are correct then the stuck shed or mark on the top of the head should come off with the next shed she has.
She definitely looks Aztec to me, FYI. That is one funky pattern!
Just out of curiousity, there's more hides than just the skull right? I think I read that you said there's 3 but I can't remember.
Congrats, and best of luck.

Thanks for the reply, yes we have a small black cardboard box hide on the cool side, which is the only other hide at the moment. The skull is far too big so i have substrate piled up inside it a bit, she seems to like it well enough. I was looking at hides at petsmart today and they have these little half logs that are really cute but they don't say what type of wood they are made of, and the employees don't know of course so I figured I'd skip it for now. I also have fake plants I just picked up today that I'm going to add to help her feel more secure and have more hiding options, but I don't want to disturb her now.

The paper that came with her says to wait 4-5 days before feeding so I was thinking maybe Monday night I would give it a shot?

Also, I LOVE her pattern. The snake in the picture had a much more uniform pattern is all I meant, but she is much prettier!

I know! She is so little! They told me my snake would mostly likely be a 5-8 month old 2013, but she seems so little. Can't be more than 13 inches all stretched out. Is a 5 month old only 13 inches?

I've used those half logs before with no issues, but in my experience, baby snakes don't really prefer them because they're pretty open. You could even just add some paper towel or toilet paper tubes. I usually cut them in half lengthwise, so they're pretty flat against the ground. Baby snakes usually love those.

Also, if you'd like to get a more accurate measurement on her, take a picture of her next to a ruler (or something that you know the length of) and upload it to serwidgets.com. It's a neat site that helps you measure your snakes.
