so any help would be great im new to this really and i dont wanna have mar all stressed on me i want her to settle nice..

oh should i get a bigger tank sooner rather than later??

Welcome to the site!!!!!!!! There is a lot of information here. Be sure to read the FAQ section in the forums. They answer a lot of questions

Hi there Shorty,
when you first get your hatchling, you should leave him in the cage/tank/Viv from three to four days with out handling the snake. just change the water. After than you could try to feed your snake a small pinky. First feeding of a hatchling are tricky. I would try to feed in a small container, maybe your's came in a small plastic "cup" , use that , with a secure vented lid. You can then to feed at night time in a dim room, some snake are shy eater. If you are feeding frozen/thaw (f/t) pinky, try slicing the back of the pinky first before you thaw the pinky in a hot cup of water. This helps trigger a feeding responce from the snake. Leave snake and the pinky in container and cross fingers. Then after feeding and you'll see a lump more than half way down the snake ,just gently lift the snake up and return to the cage. Wait forty eight hours be for attempt to handle again. Handling to be restricted to dive to ten minutes intervals for the first few weeks building up the time span as the days goes by.

Here a link to help you out.

Good Luck

I have no experince in this but from what I have read here is they live off the yolk in their egg for a period of time (which vary with the snake) before they eat there first pinky so unless you know the breeder you can get an exact date.

you can get a brilliant thermometer/hygrometer with probe from Maplins. I think they are about £14 or so.

Hatchlings should eat more often than once a week, I've got mine on a 5 day schedule. As they get bigger you lengthen the time until your adults are eating every 7-10 days.

It'll be fine in the small container for quite a while, when you get a bigger viv is up to you :) If you put it in a bigger viv make sure there's plenty of hides for it so it doesn't get stressed. Also make sure there's no gaps for it to escape, they are very very good at that!

First priority for you is to get a good thermometer with a probe and check your temps. Don't want your little one burning itself on the uth.

Congrats on your corn, welcome to the site!

thanks guys i put a 2nd hide in for it yesterday and i didnt think she'd use it but i changed the water today and shes using it...its in the hot side too is that a good thing or is it my cool side to cool??

lol so many things to get right :D

i put my hand in today and she's striking me i hope it's because she's scared and not because she hates me :(

Hi shorty welcome to the forum
I doubt very much she struck out at you because she doesn't like you, if you haven't had her long give her time to settle in and then she won't feel so stressed.
When you feed her do you put the pinkie into the viv by hand? i must admit i have always done this and i know a lot of people do not recommend it. Luckily i have had no problems but a snake can associate your hand with food.
I only do it this way because the previous owners of my snakes used this method, but if i bought a new snake i would certainly feed it in another container.

Also i handle my snakes daily (unless they have just fed) so they are used to me putting my hands in the viv's. My male snake rattles his tail sometimes and thats when i leave him alone. If he doesn't want me near him thats fine :)

Good luck with your corn

well i got him friday i aint fed him yet but i was readin that you should feed hatclings maybe 4-5 days, i was meant to feed him thursday but im gonna do it maybe tuesday or wednesday what you guys think??

and should i use tongs then??

i know im talkin constantly but this is amasing i love it.

she was nervous at first but she started calmin down once she was out and wasnt goin for my trailing hand everytime she just settled evetually and then i put her back in the warmth :D

what you guys think of her??

do you guys think i should turn my UTH off at night??

i have actually been turnin it off but i heard people just leave it, on any opinions??

I leave mine on so the snake can choose when he wants to be warmer or cooler. They seem to like it halfway on and off the UTH. Make sure there's enough bedding so its not too hot. Good luck.
