Hi everyone,
Just wanted to introduce myself. My name is Dustin and I'm the proud owner of two young male corns, a bloodred (Mochi or Momo) and an anery motley (Odin).
I'm originally from Georgia, where it is technically illegal to own even captive-bred corns, although you're allowed to pick up a rattlesnake. Makes total sense!
I also own a few other snakes, including a hypo columbian boa named Griever (named because of the teardrop shape on his nose). He thinks he's a ball python and he's pretty much my pet rock. I just take it as a sign that he trusts me completely! While I love all snakes, balls and most boas just don't do it for me in terms of color (although I love their patterns). So now I'm on a corn kick! I plan to acquire several more in the coming months.
A little more about me. I'm finishing a PhD program in genetics in March and am looking to leave the research field and get involved in education (probably at the community college level so that teaching can be my main focus). My research focused on the genetics of vertebrae and rib formation in mice (some people have used corns for their research in this area...the horror!) So if people have any genetics questions, I'd be happy to contribute!
Here is a pic of my babies! (And Griever, he'd get jealous if I didn't include a photo of him)
