hello anyone who reads this:) my name is jasmin and we have a small menagerie of animals, 2 dogs, 7 cats( yes) 5 of them rescues, 30+ koi and feed all the wild birds in the area.

A few months ago while getting a new pump for the pond, my hubby asked if i would like a snake for my birthday. Of course, i don't mind more pets! so for my bday he bought me a normal corn hatchling and the next day an albino hatchling, he thought it would get lonely lol.

They are now about 3 months old and doing good, except for the albino who is a little smaller and has regurgitated her food twice, think it was too big as the temp in viv is perfect.

I am a bit of a coward as I can't yet bring myself to feeding them, so once a week we go off to our local pet/reptile shop and they have take out. You might laugh, but I will get my head around it.

Joined the forum as I am a newbie to snakes and like to be as informed as possible whenever taking to a new adventure.

It's amazing to see the different personalities they have! Have learnt so much.

My 2 year old loves them too, which is great.

Enough rambling:)

Let me be the first to welcome you and say hello. Glad to have you among our numbers.

Let me also say, BOY are you about to get an earful about cohabitation and regurgitation. (we still love you anyway)

Hi, Jasmin, welcome. I think there's a few other members from South Africa.
I was trying to think of ways for you to feed that would be easier for you. Maybe see if you could handle frozen/thawed pinkies, no wiggling. Some people feed in a plastic tub and leave their snake in it with the lid on, it's the only way their snake eats. If you feed that way you don't have to watch.
edit:
Just thought of something, what if your amel regurged because of traveling after eating? Just a thought. Do a search for "regurge procedure" or "regurge protocol" in case it happens again.

Welcome to the forum! As previously stated..cohabbing snakes in the same tank isn't really smiled upon here as it can cause stress to both snakes. I wouldn't be surprised if that could be a possible cause for your snake to regurge it's meal. I would try putting them in seperate enclosures and see how they do. Also if your snakes are babies you should be giving them 1 pinkie every 5 to 6 days. You can look up "The Munson Plan" in the search box for the forum, It's a great feeding guide to go by when feeding your snakes. Also to help the snake digest the meal better you can always try slitting the pinkie open a bit to help. Overall though I do believe that once you start feeding them at home in a separate feedling tank that will also help the snakes digest better as their not being moved around so much. After a snake eats it shouldn't be bothered for at least 48 hours. I hope this has helped..

Once again welcome to the forum and hope to see pics of your babies soon :0)

Agree with all of the above seperate the snakes into their own tank, feed in seperate tub. Are your sure which snake regurged, did you see it? I think I would do the regurg protocol for both. Seperate tank, no food or handling for ten days, just give fresh water and then feed smallest pinky you can find. Wait at least 4-5 days before feeding again still no handling. After maybe the second or third meal they keep down you could handle them 48 hours after they've eaten.

Busy building bigger tanks so i can separate them and going to feed them at home tomorrow, she ate on Tuesday and no regurg, we'll see how it goes:)
