Hi my snake

losmetros

"Denny Crane"
Well i have had him for about 3 or 4 years. I am not sure how big he should be at this point , but he is in a 20 gallon tank and is an albino. I thought they turned mainly yellow mine is still pink, maby it just happens later in their life. My main concern is that he seems very very lethagic latly. the very tip of his tail is dried up , but it's been like that for a while and the people told me just to put on neosporin. I am really concerned is it that he need to be feed more. i feed him about every 10 days. or is his tank to cold. I have a hiding place for himm. I think he may have out grown it. He always has fresh water, and i don't know what to do. Any help?

You should feed every5-7 days...if you feel he out grew his hiding place you should get anotherone. i suggest more then one. empty papertowel tubes work wonders. what is your bedding? what are your temps? what are you feeding him? with the tail is it a bad shed? if it is take a washcloth and soak it in warm water. then wring it out and let the snake crawl through your washcloth covered hands, apply a little bit of pressure. it should come off. You say people told you to put neosporin on the tail, are these people vets? or friends?

these poeple were the owners of the store we bought them from. They are very reliable and have been in buissness for over 10 years.I have bougt all my pets their. I don't have anything to read the temp with. the type of beeding is what they recommened and i use in all my snake cages. i am not sure exactly what it is. small skinny chips of blondish chips. i feed him full grown mice dead. i will add a few more hiding places. but he just seems to stretch out right along the glass. it's just abnormal for him. I have him out right now and he is active while being handled so i am not sure.

i suggest you get a thermometer. I think the tail might be from a bad shed, try my suggestion and see if it works, nothing to lose, it wont hurt. is the beeding aspen? you have to be careful what you put in with your snakes because there are some kinds of wood that emits oils that can be harmful to your snake.

Snakes do tend to cruise the perimeter. here are a few pics of my hides

yep that is the beeding i have. my cages are very bland and to the point. i think i might spice them up . are those live vines/leaves? will it help if they are more colorful and natural looking.

GET A THERMOMETER! You need to check your temps the laying along the glass could be you snake cooling down because it's to hot and this wouldn't help it's tail.
By albino do you mean amel? just the pink and expecting yellow sounds like a snow.

Agreed.

Get one with a probe so you can check surface temps on your substrate.

Oh, and by the way, every 10 days for an adult corn, eating full grown adult mice, is fine.

This cannot be emphasized enough. Tank temps are too important to just guess at. What kind of heating are you using? If it is a UTH, place the thermometer probe directly on the glass over the UTH and under the substrate. The first time I did this, I was shocked to find my temps at 130', so while you are buying that thermometer, buy a plug in lamp dimmer or thermostat as well.

Try the suggestions given to remove the old skin from the tail. If it doesn't come off, it could restrict blood flow to the tail, causing it to die and need to be amputated.

If you will post a picture, we can tell you what morph he is.

edit: they squirm

thanks

i looked at some pics he is definetly a snow. i'll get a probe to check out the temp, and it might be to much considering i live in San Antonio texas where right now it is in the 80's.lol. how big of a problem is the tip of the tail if i can't get it to come off? Thanks for all the help

With a UTH the probe should be placed right on the glass under the aspen. That's the hottest place the snake can come in contact with. As for the tail idk. :shrugs: Hope that helps.

He could lose the end of his tail. I hope the soaking works, though, and it comes off.
