Hiding under substrate

My snake has been under the substrate almost all day for the past few days. Is something wrong, or does he just like it down here? And can I dig him up to feed him?

Sorry to say but George is show normal behavior by hide under the substrate and yes you can dig him out to feed. He will thank you for that!

He is going to shed. I haven't fed him for 8 days. Can I feed him now even if he is going to shed or should I wait until he is done shedding? I've read that feeding when he is is some stage of shedding can be dangerous though...

Snakes feel vulnerable leading up to shedding and are especially shy. A lot of snakes aren't interested in eating during that time. Some people feed their snake on schedule whether they're shedding or not. But, it's possible the snake may regurgitate. Like Alicia said, best to just wait until they're done shedding. Snakes' systems are built to be 'empty' for a while between meals. He'll be fine.

With all this shed talk I have to ask when was the last time the snake shed?
How old is the snake? An adult ,hatchling yearling?
The older they are the more infrequent the sheds.
