Holiday :(

In August im going on holiday with my whole family for 11days everyone apart from my nana and grandad is going.

My nana has a HUGE phobia of snakes and my grandad said there is absolutly no way he is defrosting a dead mouse and feeding it to the snake, the most he will do is check the water now and again.

Will the snake be ok going 11 days without food? Is it likely to die? How long can they go without feeding, theres really nothing i can do about it. There is no way anyone will feed it :( :'(

Your snake will be fine. Feed him a few days before you leave so you can clean the poo out of the cage before you go. Make sure he has a big enough water dish to last the whole time or get someone to fill the water dish while you're gone and then feed again when you get back. No problem and your grandparents don't have to mess with the snake.

As long as your corn has plenty of water they will be fine. Feed them up the morning you go on holiday, they can easily go 11 days without food. My python went 4 months without feeding so stop worrying.

One of our local reptile stores offers a 'snake sitting' service... I think it was £1 per day. Might be worth looking into see if any of your local stores offer it.

Afterall, For £11 or £12 its worth it to know your snake is being looked after by professionals.. Although, saying that i would check the store out beforehand and make sure they know what they're doing - Maybe ask to see where the animals are kept?. My local one requires you to bring your setup with you (OR something appropriate.) so atleast you'd know the conditions are correct.

Just a thought, Afterall - If its not until August you have a long time to find a place. :)

Agreed that even the youngest Corn won't have a problem going without food for 11 days, as long as it's in good health to start with.

Check all the electrics about a week before you go - make sure that the heat source and thermostat are working as expected by taking regular temperature readings for a few days, just for safety.

I usually leave them with two water bowls per viv, just in case they decide to poop in one (Murphy's Law states that they will do this about thirty seconds after you leave!). Make sure that the water containers are quite deep, so that the water won't evaporate completely in the time that you're away. Also put them at the cool end to slow evaporation.

If I'm away for much longer than 10 days I look for alternatives, but I'm lucky - my mother loves snakes and is fine with changing their water, and my local reptile shop offers a boarding service for £5 per snake per week for my habitual biter (they're used to being bitten, my mother isn't!).

Hon, your little snake will be fine. Ours was out and didn't have food (I'm sure she must've found water though...?) for 7 WEEKS. Follow the advice, and all will be well!
