Home made incubator

Well so far... the problem that I'm having is the top is cooler then the middle and bottom (I've got probes in the bottom, middle and top bins so i can see the different temp gradient)
I'm wanting to see what it does overnight then I'll make my decisions. I figured that having the heat tape on the back would be too close to the bins... but we'll see how things go. I have a while before it gets used.

Edit: The cord I'm using for the fans has a voltage switch on it. i could switch from 1-12V
 
It's been a few hours now, temps have been rising steadily. I know it'll take a while for the water jugs to get warmer so I'm really wanting to see what results i achieve in the morning. I still have a little bit more of the 11" heat tape if i need to add it and I'll be going to the expo Sunday in Toronto.

BTW, the fans are supposed to bring air up through the middle and hopefully force air back down the sides or at least the back.
 
Ohhh just a few hours, that's okay then. I'd let it go at least overnight and maybe even another night, then check out your max/min temps and see where you're at.

I understand what you're trying to achieve with the fans, I'm just not sure it will actually work out that way, I think they would have to be pretty powerful to get the air to go back down, but this is my first incubator build too, so I could be wrong.

Right now I'm just using a coleman cooler as my incubator, no fancy fans or anything like that. Hopefully our big incubator will be done by next weekend, though.
 
Lol I thought about the cooler, as to i've seen a couple... but the cost of the cooler brought me down lol. And besides I like to be creative and build from my imagination.
I really hope it works out, and the fans. Well if i have to move the bottom one down one shelf (blowing air up) and the top one move it towards the back and make it blow air down... that might get the air movement a bit better, but we'll see how things go.

I had made a little incubator with a styrofoam box with a fan to move the air around... it worked great so that's where the fan idea came from. It's just the whole bigger incubator space that's different.

So like I said I'll see what happens :D If i have to change a couple things, then i change a couple things I have some time.
 
And an update, as to the thermostat got to it's 82F mark and shut finally shut off. It's gotten to it's temp, now i don't know exacts but the bottom one atm reads 82.3F middle reads 81.1F and top reads 79.6. I bumped the thermostat up to 83F and I want to see what happens. Chances are if temps are around that area I could live with that. I will only be having a couple clutches max for probably the next 3-4 years at least. (I only have 2 female corns atm anyway lol).

Edit: I'll update the temps in the morning when i finally git my ass outta bed.
 
Well... Having the thermostat at 83F was to hot, the bottom was like 86F or something. I've decided that I'm not completely happy with the thermostat i'm using for it (hydrofarm) and I plan within the next couple weeks to get a new Herpstat I Intro to use for it. I might as well use a really good thermostat for the incubator. I'll update once i get the new thermostat and how temps turn out.

I could keep using the current stat but it just drops too much before turning back on again... almost like 2F it has to drop before it turns back on!
