Horsin' Around! (DUW)

Ophidiophile.
So today was my last day of courses as an undergraduate (whoop!), and the only class I had was my ANSC 311, or Equine Management. I had finished my practical yesterday, so I spent the class period just taking pictures. I'm really going to miss these ponies. It's been such a joy watching them grow and mature and learn to be good horses. So, I thought I'd share some pictures with y'all.

My personal horse was Walker, a lovely, yet lazy sorrel quarter horse:

Great looking animals, makes me really miss my quarter

They are quite lovely, and actually all of them are Quarters. That's all A&M breeds, I believe...

Congrats on graduating. What are your plans for after? Masters? Job?

Thank you! Well, I had internships lined up for the London Zoo or the Central Park Zoo, but with 15 animals and snake-hating parents, I had to decline those. So, now I'm just taking some fun classes in the fall as a non-degree seeking student. As for the Spring, I'll either get my non-thesis Masters in Wildlife Conservation & Ecology or a lengthy internship. I have my eye on working with wolf packs in Alaska. After that, I'll keep applying to Vet School until I get in.

Beautiful horses!!!!

Aren't they? I wish they were up for sale right now. I'd buy my ol' Walker boy.

If you don't mind me asking where were the pictures taken?

They were taken at the Horse Center off of George Bush (near Reed Arena, Olsen Field, etc.).

Ok, I forgot that there was some arena's there also. I saw a building in the back ground and Knew it wasn't Freeman arena, but couldn't figure out where else it could be. I work for the University.

Very nice! I'm not really one for quarter horses (we're thoroughbred and warmblood people), but that little guy in the left in the last two pictures is just too cute, I think I'd have a hard time leaving him there!! Congrats on graduating!

Yep. The Horse Center doesn't technically have any arenas, just pens that suited that purpose for the class. It's where all the breeding and raising takes place. Then the horses we worked with (A Lab Yearlings) are used in B Lab and C Lab to be finished out at Freeman -- which seriously needs to be updated!

I'm with you on not being a fan. Texas loves the breed, though. Or at least my university does. It's about all they breed, train, show, and sell. I like the draft breeds, myself and many of the sporthorses -- Trakehner, Hanoverian, Zangersheide, and Irish Hunters.

And thank you! I'm very excited to be done...if only for a few months, lol.
