Housing & breeding?

Okay, I finally got a beautiful girl for my boy. One Ghost male and one Caramel female. Both approx 36" long and probably ready to breed in Spring 07. Here are my questions:

1. Hybernation, is it true reducing the temp and gradually raising it mimics the seasons and hence inspires their metabolism to produce the desire to breed in Spring?

2. Can I put both male and female of the same size together in the same tank?

3. If not, can I put them together just through Hybernation into breeding season and then seperate them?

4. What morphs could come from Caramel/Ghost combo?

5. I've been to several Zoos and noticed that Corn snakes of similar size were always housed together. One place in Florida had about 12 in the same cage. All at least 5 footers. Is that a bad idea or what?

I was holding the Caramel and the Ghost came out of his cave and came to the glass and showed ALOT of interest in her. She in him also. But I kept them seperate anyway.

Thanks for any input.

1. Yes, cooling it and turning the lights off makes the corns systems think its the seasons changing and helps them tell when they need to do things.

2. I wouldnt, its much easier to house seperately I feel, you can moniter each individual snake, cohabbing opens the door to risks not needed in most cases.

3. Its really not needed, you would have to seperate them anyways for feeding and to give them both breaks.

4. All normals het caramel, anery, and hypo; unless there are hets, theres always the possibility for suprises.

5. Corns by nature are solitary. In order to house them together responsibly you need a complete setup for each indivdual snake, they need to be quarentened seperately for at least a few months, and you need to pay very very close attention to them all times. By housing together there are health risks, stress risks, feeding risks; you wont be able to tell if something suspicious came from what snake. You will need an extra large enclosure and even then some compitition for prime spots may go on. If you do a search on here you can find many more details.

Thanks guys, you have confirmed my thoughts. Much obliged. When do you suppose I should start hybernation? December through March?

Thanks again!....R
